Looks like first run bonuses from different retailers.
Some of them cost more it seems. Like on Amazon, you can get the set with the limited time ushi-san phone strap and the game for 4,388 yen or the set with the game, ushi-san strap and 20th anniversary tote bag for 5,378 yen, or the Ebten set which is most expensive one at 8,290 yen with a set of small stuffed toy animals (sheep/chicken/cow) plus the phone strap. Some of the other sites aren't charging any extra for their goodies though, but I'm also not sure if they all get the strap either.
Hmm, I ordered from AmiAmi (which is already sold out) and it doesn't look like it gets anything extra besides the strap but I'm fine with that.

OK, I know this is off topic, but I have yet to say anything about it, and I really want to ask. Am I the only one who, when hearing about the talking to animals/Soul Mate thing, instantly thought how bat poopoo crazy the MC must look when talking to them? When I first heard it, all I could imagine was the shocked, creeped out look on the MC's spouse's face when they caught them talking to their pet. It's quite the hilarious mental image, IMO .
Spoiler:
Spouse: "Honey, is somebody here? I thought I heard you talking to someone."
MC: "No, that was just me talking to Fluffy."
Spouse: *walks into the room* "Oh, OK then. It really sounded like you were speaking to a person, though."
MC: "Nope, I'm just trying to get something straight with Fluffy." *Turns to Fluffy with a serious look on their face,* "Now, start from the beginning, you were talking too fast and I couldn't understand much." *Pauses while they listen to Fluffy make a bunch of noise* "OK,OK, I got that, but why do I need an axe?"
Spouse: Um, Hon-"
MC: "Shush! This is important!" *Turns back to Fluffy,* "continue." *Listens to Fluffy make some more noise* "Oh, that makes sense, but why also bring the hammer?"
Spouse: Honey, I think tha-"
MC: *Not listening to their spouse,* "alright, we better get going, then." *Turns to their spouse,* "I got to go somewhere. I'll be back before dinner. Love you!"
Spouse: "Wait a min-"
MC: *Walks out of front door and slams it shut.*
Spouse: O_O
(I had fun writing that for some reason. I don't care if it's stupid .)

I had similar thoughts to be honest, but didn't come up with a scenario as hilarious. I can totally imagine that happening. I hope they have a spouse event like this since it's an important feature of the game...like I said before, this is an ability that fanfic writers love to play around with.

Same in Korea...well, at least, that's how I was raised, being in the US and all. I'd call my mom's friends from church aunt/grandma. It's being respectful.

Haha, around here if anyone called someone auntie or grandma without being asked do to so (and it would be very rare to be asked to do so, especially 'grandma'), they might get in big trouble. I think you've got to grow up with it being a normal way to speak to someone. A lot of people in this area would think it was a deliberate slam at their age if someone who wasn't related to them called them that, essentially calling them 'old'. It would be kind of like calling them 'geezer'. But then, I think the entire topic of age is treated differently in different countries/cultures. In some, referring to a person as older is respectful, since age is respected. In others, it's rude, since age is considered to be something you try to fight or hide, sort of, because it means 'your day' has already passed and you're no longer relevant. It's hard to express it in a clear, understandable way.
But back to the actual game, with all those ordering bonuses being shown: I wonder if any type of bonus will be offered for pre-ordering in NA or the EU. I kind of suspect not, at least not the same ones. But maybe they'll come up with something else since pre-order bonuses are not uncommon.

Arcy wrote:I don't know about Japan, but in Tagolog/Taglish/Filipino (or at least the region my husband is from), actual biological aunt is "tita/tiya", but there's a different word for sister, "ate", which is used to address pretty much every female you're close to whether or not they are actually related to you or just friends of your family. I've always thought of the Japanese "obaachan" with the extra "a" as similar to that, just because it seems to be used in a similar way in the small amount of Japanese stuff I see/watch/play. When it isn't being used to harrass a woman for looking/being mature, anyway.
(In case you're curious, the male version of ate is kuya, some families or regions may attach these titles only to elder female/male relatives/friends. Also, pronounced "ah-tey", not like the past tense verb form for eat.)
If Frank is your MC's biological Uncle, and Megan's lived near him all your life and is good friends with him... well. She's probably someone your MC has been close with in the past from a childhood visit or two, or even from his letters and phone calls, thus the affectionate/respectful title.
I'm Filipino and I can attest to this I think "ate/kuya/tita" is similar to how the Japanese use "neechan/niichan/oba(a)chan" for everyone [older] who aren't blood-related to them, e.g. I call my friends' mothers "tita." I believe it's an Asian thing haha, since I know that in the West, people just address each other by name regardless of age.
...
I can only recognize the first six (excluding the 5th) merch items. I think it's cute how there's a washi tape (I assume?? The site says masking tape but that's probably washi tape right...) and a lunch cloth =))

Yachi's hairstyle is cute to me but... When does this game take place? I thought most HM games were modern time. Are they ramping up how retro the universe is or is this a period piece?

I think they've been taking inspiration from historical times more and more in the most recent games. TOTT has somewhat of an old-timey feel to it, as far as the way most of the characters dressed. SOS was definitely set in some 19th century-ish time period, just judging by the outfits, although we did have a TV in that game, so who knows. I feel like it's all about them letting that fantasy flag fly. I wouldn't be surprised if they got tired of setting games in a more modern era. They're creating a world and adding a little more spice to it by changing it up a little bit.
This game seems to be set somewhat in the past, from, but it might be more of 1930's-1950's type of deal judging by the dress of the characters that we have seen so far.
Plot twist: Each town is secretly set in a different era, to you have to travel through both space and time to get there! Also, your house is bigger on the inside- /slapped
EDIT: I totally forgot about Grand Bazaar. That one was basically set in 18th-19th century Holland or something.

Where did this idea that Frank and Meghan aren't your uncle and aunt come from? I was the one who did those translations, and I stand by them.
In the backstory page, your dad specifically tells you to go stay with your uncle, who is a farmer. In the character descriptions for Frank and Meghan, it is literally "幼い頃に数回会って以来,何年ぶりに再会する主人公の伯父さん" -- "the player's uncle, who s/he met several times when s/he was young, and is now reuniting with." Frank is clearly your literal uncle.
If Meghan and Frank aren't married, then fair, she wouldn't be your aunt. Based on Harvest Moon character typing, though, and the way they were introduced, I am 100% sure they are married.
EDIT: Ok, now having gone back and read the thread in order, I see where this came from. Yes, to reiterate, Frank is your uncle. I went back and looked at the scans and the website and I guess you guys are right -- Meghan and Frank aren't married. I'm a little surprised, because the way they were introduced together really made it look like they would be, but you're correct that she's an obaachan and not an obachan. It's unlikely that you'd think of your own aunt as an obaachan.
So only one blood relative. Better than none, I guess.

Don't worry about it too much, Emurii, we've probably had the Uncle/Auntie conversation in the thread about three times now, chewing on old cuds is what Ushians do when we run out of new News. (Appropriately, like ruminants. )

While I doubt they'd do it, I actually really like the idea of some/a spouse event(s) centered on the MC talking to their pet. Though, since this is a SoS game, if they did do it, I think it very unlikely that they'd have your spouse think you're a total nut bag for talking to your pet. They'd probably just have your spouse be like "Oh, so you claim your pet can actually speak to you? Cool! I instantly believe you even though that sounds completely insane." Personally, if they did decide to do spouse events about them seeing the MC talking to their pet, I think it'd be best as a chain of events. Preferably (to make them believing your pet can speak to you less jarring,) with the first event being about them thinking you're crazy for thinking your pet can talk to you, and the other events being about the MC trying to convince them that it's the truth with the last event having their spouse finally believe that the pet can talk to them. Or, on the off chance that your pet is really a magical talking animal, and it can talk to anyone, not just the MC, the last event will have your pet come clean and speak to your spouse to get them to stop thinking you're crazy. Then your pet could start also talking to your spouse, and your spouse could have dialogue about some of the things your pet has said to them (hey, I can dream!)
(OK, I think I went a bit nuts with this off-the-wall speculation of mine. I'm going to go to sleep now. Please feel free to ignore my crazy ramblings .)

That, my friend, would be amusing to see. And as for someone who writes Fanfics, I totally can see that it'd be a amusing fic XD A fic about a talking pet would be amusing ^^'
The Luigi one helps with fishing and the toad one with stanima, I think.

I'm glad of something to help with fishing. (Well...if it helps you catch less junk, anyway. I'm so sick of fishing in SoS, catchiing 10 items, and having those 10 items be: 4 fish, 2 cans, 2 branches, 1 boot and 1 rock. For example. Just saying that I always caught more junk than fish, sometimes a LOT more. Which is deeply unrealistic...why do they add that feature? Honestly, catching non-fish should be a pretty rare thing.)
But doesn't it seem like the costumes are a bit redundant/unnecessary? In this game you can get effects from food for your speed and stamina and etc. (I'm not sure about friendship and fishing, though...it seems less likely to be able to get boosts on those from food.)
EDIT: Rather than stamina, I think the Toad costume increases animal friendship.
