New tweet with Inari. I tried using Google translate and that was no help :/

つゆくさの里のほこらに住んでいる「イナリちゃま」は、不思議な力でペットをソウルメイトにしてくれます。「イナリちゃま」はキレイ好きなので1日2回、ほこらの掃除をしています
Image

According to Google (which again was no help) says something about how Inari lives in a shrine near/in a village called Dayflower?? And it also says something about your soul pet and 'mysterious power'.

Idk, maybe it means that there is a place where you can bring your soul mate pet? Or where you can get it?

This is all information we already have. Translation:
Inari-chama, who lives in a small shrine off of Tsuyukusa Town, can use mysterious powers to make your pet a Soul Mate Pet. Inari-chama likes to keep things clean, and cleans the shrine twice a day.
The "dayflower" thing is Tsuyukusa.

(Also, disclosure, I had previously mis-translated Inari's cleanliness-loving as liking pretty things. So Inari likes cleanliness, not necessarily pretty things.)

Just for reference, Google translate is NOT ideal for Japanese - not only because Japanese syntax doesn't work well with whatever algorithms they use, but also because Google translate takes user suggestions of translations, many of which are downright incorrect.

(It works wonderfully with Danish, though!)

PS Inari's way of speaking makes them sound like an old man from the country, lol

Yeah seriously, what's with the わし and なのじゃ, just how old are you Inari

I'm flooded with work so I don't post often but I've been stalking this thread since the beginning and man, I can't wait for the release day cause so many things are still unknown, it's killing me e.e though I'm fine with anything they throw at us really, unless it'll be as grindy as SoS. I mean I liked it at lot, it's my most played 3DS game next to RF4, but man, playing on Veteran and unlocking the last two vendors was a pain. Please don't go down this road Bokumono ;v;

Inari: "very."

I don't know anything about Japanese, so I don't know how old fashioned Inari's speech is, but I usually like it when an old, yet young looking, character is given a way of speech that reflects their age. Adds a nice touch, IMO.

Saw this from Tumblr.

Via their Twitter, Marvelous gave us a screenshot of our young goddess, Dessie, at her pond in West Town. Throwing an offering into the pond will summon her. It looks like the residents have built a very nice boardwalk/pier/bridge/whatever jutting into her lake. Doesn’t that look like a nice fishing spot, too? …Think Dessie would mind people fishing in her pond?

I think they are trying to give Inari more of an Edo flair than make him/her sound like an old person (old people irl don't talk like that, but in the Edo period and earlier it was normal to talk like that).

^ Yeah, that's what I was getting at. Inari probably doesn't talk like an old person (as in, like a grandma/grandpa,) but rather talks like someone from ancient times (would make sense, considering Inari is probably going to be over a hundred years old.) They did a bit of that with Pandora from RF ToD.
That does bring up a question, though. How will they transition Inari's speech to the English version? Will they have them speak with "thees" and "thous?" Or will they do something different with it? Obviously, with me not knowing Japanese or how the people from the Edo period spoke, I don't know what the English equivalent of Inari's speech is.

^ Yes, that. More old-fashioned than "get off my lawn, you whippersnappers" kind of old (although that would be awesome).

I also hope this game isn't "grind-y." Some of the work needed to unlock the last two vendors in SoS just isn't reasonable. I never got around to unlocking them. Too much "work" when it's supposed to be a fun game gets really old.

It would be awesome (and generation-wise, accurate) if Inari talked in 18th century English. It's much easier to understand than earlier forms of English but still good fun to read. I'm thinking of Fielding's Tom Jones, one of my favorite books.

I suppose they will translate it with a vey polite and fomal speech ?

When I played SoS in french I was surprised how polite Mistel was, speaking in a vey old and noble way. I think the same would suit Inari very much

I took Mistel's & Iris's manner of speaking as more of polite and formal. I believe (and hope) Inari's will be more along the lines of what Fin said with the 18th century English when translated. So if anyone has read the Scarlet Letter, the Federalist Papers, Gulliver's Travels, Common Sense, the Original Pride and Prejudice, etc., things like that or from around that era.

Inari= wise words, but young(or older?) Ooh, I like it. If you marry them, you'll get lots of wise words! :)
P.S. I love it how they're basically the PERFECT weather person. They get it right every time!
