I bought it last week and am COMPLETELY hooked.Meriberry wrote:It is funny that this is where it ended up, but since it's neither Bokumono, or Natsume, I guess that label applies? XD It's so awesome that the port for Mac and Linux came out, now we can get even MORE people hooked in~
This game is so addictive and really reminds me of the older Harvest Moons (I'm not a fan of SoS so far).
Yeah, I was thinking it was a lot like some of the older HM games! I think it was mostly because you have so little space at the beginning, though... Does anyone have tips for starting out? I just built the furnace... That's about it. Haven't really done much besides try to clean up my farm and mine.
Also, are there alternate storylines based on choice? I chose not to get a Joja membership. Do they, like, take over the town or something then, or does it just end, like when you made a bad choice in HMDS/(M)FoMT?
If you buy the Joja membership:
Starting tips: Craft a storage box asap to store stuff. Mine as much as you can (but take care not to get knocked out) to get copper and coal needed to upgrade your tools, and some artifacts for the museum. Ideally you'll want to have a copper watering can by early summer.
If you see worms poking out of the ground, dig in that spot with your hoe and you might find something good.
Go fishing at the beach on rainy days.

Just got to summer and I think I've got most of that done, but didn't know about the worms. Good to know about the rainy days, too.
Is there any good mining food? I was using salmonberries, but I've eaten through my stock and I haven't seen any new berries yet.
Also, are the first sprinklers worth it?
After I used up all Salmonberries I switched to Sashimi - you can get the recipe from Linus after getting him to 3 hearts, it uses only one fish, restores a good amount of stamina and the majority of villagers like it as a gift. Sashimi's great manKarry wrote:Is there any good mining food? I was using salmonberries, but I've eaten through my stock and I haven't seen any new berries yet.

Until then I'd recommend cave carrots. Nothing else comes to mind really, but once you get the kitchen built then pretty much all cooked dishes work :D
As for the sprinklers, NO. Make a single one just to make it count for the Craft Master achievement and forget it or throw it away or whatever xD Quality and Iridium sprinklers (<- late game; the Quality ones will be your best friends for quite a long time) are where it's at.
As for me, I got SV during the Summer Sale and I'm about 80 hours in. My only complaint is that I can't marry Shane yet AND I REALLY NEED TO OKAY, so I can't get the Full House achievement until 1.1 comes out D: But it's an extremely minor thing, I absolutely love the game and ConcernedApe is a lovely person :')
I'm nowhere near getting the kitchen, lol. And I think I'm way too far in for cave carrots... Am around floor 80, now I can't find much food in the mines. >.<Ultima wrote:After I used up all Salmonberries I switched to Sashimi - you can get the recipe from Linus after getting him to 3 hearts, it uses only one fish, restores a good amount of stamina and the majority of villagers like it as a gift. Ah, thanks! I did find one quality sprinkler in the mine or something, but I think I'll save it for now.
Oh? Is there something currently missing?
Also, does Shane get better? I've been giving him gifts just because I want to see everyone's events, but honestly, he's seems like a major jerk so far. I guess he might be pretty similar to other HM guys, like Neil and Vaughn, who I did marry, but honestly, I'm not really into his looks (or really any of the candidates', for that matter), so I guess that's why it annoys me so much.
Not missing no. Shane and Emily as marriage candidates are coming when CA releases the 1.1 update (which we don't know when yet, but it'll be free, apparently, which is AWESOME)
Flowers are good mine food, I've noticed. I usually sell high-level everything, and then keep the rest. If you hover over a food item, it'll tell you how much health/stamina you can get back, so you can plan to stock food accordingly.

...Oddly enough, up until now, I thought Shane was already a marriage candidate. I also only realized earlier today that Emily isn't one, either. But nice.Meriberry wrote:Not missing no. Salads are also pretty cheap and easily bought at the bar (220G), so once you have a bit of money you can easily eat those too. I subsisted on berries, field snacks, and salads until I got the kitchenWorMzy wrote:I take field snacks (pine cone + maple seed + acorn) into the mine with me during the early game. They don't heal much, but I find that I need the energy boost more than heals. Later on, you can buy or cook Miner's treats, which are pretty good for healing and energy recovery.
1.1 update news and interview!!
CA seems like such a lovely guy aw I hope he wasn't too nervous.
I'm soooo excited for this. The new farm layout options is such a good idea!
((i hope people don't mind me bumping the topic. it seemed silly to start a new one idk))
