This will probably sound like a silly question for people playing the game in English,but my game is in French. Usually I don't have much problem translating things when reading the guide, but the requirements for unlocking the 2 last vendors include something called "vesture".

What are those? How is it different from"clothings"?

After a laborious start, I love the game so much I'm reaching the 130 hours spent on it. It's my favourite HM game so far!

Vesture refers to unprocessed goods produced on your farm. Basically, crops and animal products. It's not a word commonly used in English and I'd never actually heard it before the game and I'm not entirely sure of the actual literal definition, so there's no need to feel bad about not knowing it.

I only knew the "archaic" definition. vesture, vestment and.... "vetement" in French is "clothing".

I'm glad it means crops, as I've been selling a lot of those for the requests and in order to get the gold seeds.

It's probably one of the things they did to differentiate the game from Harvest Moon. Since Natsume would've probably used a simpler word like "crops".

Like using Japanese names for the returning characters, Dessie and (apparently) Gaia instead of harvest goddess, Nature Sprites instead of Harvest Sprites and the idea of changing Gold to Cents (which the fans objected, so they changed it back).

I wouldn't say that, from the information that XSEED provided during the localization process, they said that the Japanese dev team and the bigshots at Marvelous specifically used some deliberately archaic words in the Japanese version and/or provided feedback as to which words in English might be good approximate localization terms. Combined with XSEED's attempt to remain true to the spirit of the original game, and doing a 1-for-1 translation on the very few words, technical terms, and/or phrases that allow such a conversion, it definitely led to a totally new "flavor" of localization for the Bokujō Monogatari franchise than what we've been used to in the past.

Some changes, like names and the gold to cents thing, I'm very glad they asked for feedback from the fanbase on before implementing it in the finished game. That's a level of interaction that most localization companies simply do not provide. Still other things, like the Winery Juice/Kitchen Juice confusion or some of the infamous and wildly out of character lines (like Nadi's "bosom" line and Kamil's "ciao, babe"), I really wish they would have taken some more time on.

There's a world of difference from translating something like "Le monde appartient à ceux qui se lèvent tôt." to "The early bird catches the worm." or "Early to bed, early to rise..." (approximately spiritually faithful) instead of "The world belongs to those who rise early." (approximately literally faithful)

TL;DR: A combination of 1) stylistic differences between the localization companies, 2) more direct oversight from the parent company, 3) asking for AND accepting fan feedback, and 4) different people doing the translations probably did more to make "Story of Seasons" different from prior "Harvest Moon" titles than any deliberate attempts to be different for the sake of difference.

Get 100 people to paint the exact same still life, and you're going to end up with 100 different paintings. Some of them will be very similar to eachother, some will be wildly stylistically different. That's just human nature.

Hm. That's true, now that you mention it, XSeed probably had more direct input from Marvelous than Natsume.

I'm not familiar with the Japanese games, or the language itself, so I have no way of knowing what words they use.
