Animal Friendship - Hearts at Standstill

Hey guys. I'm in fall yr 1, yet a lot of my animals are still only around 3 hearts. I do all the daily things like brushing, talking, ect, but the rate of heart increase is basically at a standstill. I take them to the safari every other day or so.

The one thing is, is that I don't give them treats. Should I be? I'm not sure why else hearts wouldnt be rising for almost a full month now. However, I never gave treats back in ANB and never had this issue. I never really experienced this in any HM game before ;;

Do you leave your animals out at night, by chance? They don't appreciate that; they should only be outside during the daytime.

Treats would help, too, and you'd be getting more products out of them as well, eventually.

Have you taken a look at their personalities yet? (In the barn or coop check out the book on the table on the left side which will show you the personalities)

For example: "Active"-personality animals gain hearts much faster if you take them out on sunny days and as MageDragonfire said put them back in the barn before nightfall, making it quite easy to get them to 10 hearts within a few in-game weeks.

As for the "level-headed" ones I'm not 100% sure but it seems that treats really boost their FP since I noticed that Hanako started to get hearts faster once I started feeding her treats on a daily basis.

Regarding the "cowardly" ones I haven't read up on them yet but my guess is that they either prefer to stay inside your barn instead of being outside (outside might be considered "dangerous" for them?) or that they remain happy as long as they're not the only one outside or inside the barn (maybe they're afraid not having fellow animals around?)

Last but not least, if you're looking for a specific personality for a animal you're about to buy I recommend saving beforehand then fast-travel back to your farm and checking it out immediately. If you're not happy with the personality simply reset and try again until you get the one you want.

You can check the personality of a recently purchased animal from the "sell" menu, no need to travel back to the farm.

That's really convenient - thanks for telling me, Arcy!
Spoiler:
I should probably read more of your posts in the SoS forum if I want to improve my output as I noticed from the few I’ve come across that you really know how to do things as efficient as possible in this game.

No worries.
Spoiler:
I'm human. I make mistakes. What works for me may not work for other people. But I hope you do find some of the things I wrote useful or applicable to your gameplay. Remember, don't let efficiency get in the way of fun! That's the mistake I tend to make the most.
