Totally overwhelmed, how do combat this?

I'm still in my first year so maybe it gets better. I'm constantly overwhelmed by everything there is to do. I try to focus on only a couple things but easily get off track, it almost makes it stressful to even play sometimes.

Does anyone else have this problem, and what do you do to keep organized and productive each day on your farm?

Thank you all!

EDIT: My favorite part of the game is caring for the animals, but that is time consuming and stressful... I actually live on a farm and the IRL animal care takes up a huge portion of my day so why am I torturing myself by doing the same things in the game! lol

oh lordy, i'm such a « new farmer » I replied to this post without logging in.

Haha, I get what you mean. There’s a lot to care of each day but I doubt the daily schedule will get less time consuming in the later in-game years
(I’m in year two so far and I always make use of the whole day till 11 pm).
In the later years you’ll be able to purchase some stuff you’d usually need to produce or farm somewhere (materials, ores or pearls for example) and you’ll unlock more crops but depending on how big your field is/how many greenhouses you own and how many public fields you’ve unlocked so there will still be a lot to do.

I don’t want to discourage you though, as I think that there’s not some sort of penalty for not doing a lot per day in this game (unlike at least one other Harvest Moon game (I can’t remember which one it was) where you could get a game over if you didn’t reach a certain goal within a certain amount of time) but if you feel stressed already there’s no harm in shifting your priorities to taking care of your animals and cutting down on farm work, fishing and such.

Anyways, I can give you a few tips that might save a little time of your daily schedule:

- Regarding potential money issues: If you spend the most time on your animals either way I recommend giving them treats everyday so they’ll produce more eggs/milk/wool, taking them outside when it’s sunny (primarly the „active“ personality-ones as that’ll raise their hearts quite fast) or even sending them to the safari a few times (don’t know how many times exactly) which will result in them producing + products. Combine that with the sewing studio and the cheese factory and you’ll be able to make a lot of money by selling processed foods, cloths and clothes without having to spend too much time on farming and completing other tasks.

- Try to upgrade your equipment as soon as possible (in your case maybe the animal related ones) as they will lessen the time for milking, brushing etc. Buy the blueprints, go to the mining spot in the safari every day and save your game before you start mining. That will make it slightly faster to get the specific items you need (gold, platinum etc.) for the upgrade as you can simply reset the game if you don’t get any ore you want and try again instead of going through a whole in-game day until you get another chance. If you need more wood buy the hardwood- and softwood trees from rose- and wheat country, plant them on your farm and simply cut them down once they’re fully grown. You don’t need to water them or anything so that saves some time. Also ,if I’m not mistaken, you might get more wood if you chop them down with higher quality axe such as the one that’s made out of the sorcerer’s stone.

- Buy as many carrots as possible and make use of your horse and the fast travel option.

- If you don’t have access to at least 500 FP gifts for most of the townsfolk and don’t think that talking to them daily and giving them <300FP gifts is worth your effort and time you might as well ignore some of them as long as you win as many festivals as possible which will make up for the days you couldn’t talk to them.
Speaking of townsfolk – if you really want to talk to all of them after all I’d say it’s more efficient doing that in the morning starting from 7 or 8 am as they’ll be in their houses whereas waiting till afternoon will make it more time consuming as you'd need to find all of them since they’ve started going for walks. In addition some characters, especially Lillie, who leave the town on some days might still be at home around 7 am. Otherwise you’d have to wait until around 7 pm until they come back again.

Hope this helps

Start playing Seedling mode to learn the game, it will save you in-game energy allowing you to do more without eating.

I get up at 06:00AM.
Go outside and give water to everything on your farm.
Attend the animals. Greet, feed, brush, and gather their produce.
It'll be around 08:00, so I run towards town. Collecting stuff I pass by.
Give water to the public fields I pass by.
Perhaps dive if you have time and feel like it.
Enter town around 11:00. Visit the general store if I have to. Jump the hedges for free items (only early in the game).
Visit the vendors at the trade square. Ship/Buy stuff.
Visit the guild office and travel to the Safari.
Return home, give water again to the plants which need it.
And I wait for bedtime while doing some random chores, like making clothes or cutting trees.

You could attend your animals first before attending the farm. Depends on your priority and time management. When you are involved in ranking up your seeds you might want to give water or harvest first because the Seed Maker also needs time to process the goods. I also didn't talk with villagers a lot and didn't fully engage in a relationship yet.

Autumn was very stressful for me since I had many public fields, and there are MANY crops to plant in this season. Even if it was only Year 1. It brought in a good amount of money though. If you plan on taking care of animals I do suggest you cultivate Flax. Using the Sewing Shed it can be transformed into Golden Linnen which sells for a good amount of money. This will help you since you won't have many crops to sell.

Yeah, I know what you mean... I recommend you take your time. If you hurry through things, you'll just end up disliking the game. Just play at your own pace.
Also, you could have themes for your farm! I remember, in Fall YR. 2, I turned mine into a winery! I sold some animals, I planted grapes... you could be a textile farm... you could export cheese... you could become a lumber-producing forest... you could be a cow empire... you could make your cooking known throughout the world...
Right now, I have an Eastern farm. Some ponds, archs, walls, Loyal Pup Statues...
Just do something you like to do!

Ya'll are awesome. All this advice really helps a lot. I'll enjoy the game more if I stop trying to do everything possible all in one day.

Really appreciate the detailed answers!

Thank you

You have no idea how much all that helped. Thank you for taking the time to type that out.
