... to totally cream the competition
Still in early fall of year one, got a lot of crops growing and I can't wait to afford the Sewing Studio.
I looked ahead into the season and saw a cooking competition, i'm totally jazzed.
What dishes did you serve up to impress the judges, especially as a new farmer with not as many options?

I think I made Sweet Potato Salad, since they are the quickest crop to grow and it's easy to raise the quality of them

This is lengthy
I went for the full course – Western theme because I did not have recipes or ingredients to complete any other theme.
Full course ensures that several dishes will go up in brand rather than just one dish. My first year full course was as follows:
Salad: Caprese.
Soup: Onion soup
Fried/pot dish: Cream Croquette
Rice/Noodle and Bread: Penne all’ Arrabbiata.
Snack: Pudding
Drink: Lemon juice – I had been fertilizing my lemon tree since summer
My strategy: (I always plan for anything – real life or game life- I actually love planning for things in advance – if I can
*My cooking level was master chef (after cooking 3000 dishes individually).
*I had also cooked several of the dishes I planned to enter (using the lowest quality ingredients) and as a result I was able to add the secret ingredient to my dishes.
*For the competition I used the highest quality ingredients (saved up or made in the cheese maker).
The combination of the above helped my dishes to go up to 4.5 and 5 start level.
For the second year I went for a Chinese theme – full course.

Year one
Your best bet in my opinion is Pudding. Your animals should give high quality products at this point and Pudding requires one egg, one milk. I got a 5 Star Pudding from that and won easily.
Years after
Always go with a fullcourse meal. Food does not ever go bad in this game so I plan right after the festival what my course next year will be and never run into the issue of not being able to make something for the festival.
Examples of fullcourse meals that I won with, even against Fritz who is your biggest competition:
Chinese Style
Salad: Cucumber Namul
Soup: Egg Soup
Pan/Pot: Chop Suey
Rice/Noddles: Fried Rice
Dessert: Pudding
Drink: Milk Tea
Japanese Style
Salad: Spinach Salad
Soup: Spinach Soup
Pan/Pot: Boiled Spinach
Rice/Noddles: Undon with Egg
Dessert: Cream Puff
Drink: Apple Shake

Does pudding add chinese points?
I have entered with Pudding, Milk Salad, Milk Soup, Penne all Arrabiata, Bread, and Milk Tea and always won.

I'm only in my first year but I think I'm gonna try going for full course too, My animals are producing 4.5 star products. I feel like I should just go for it!

No it doesn't.
Snacks and drinks do not have any particular style/theme of cooking/dishes. They are neutral.

Go for it
You can make it! I did.
