I crafted the bell from Silk Country, used for the animals. How do I use it to get all animals in and outside of the farm? It doesn't work on chickens I guess.

The only way I have been able to use the bell to take livestock in/out is by standing near the entrance/exit and then ring the bell for the animals to come nearer and then push them out/ in of the barns. It takes a shorter time than looking for them or pushing them from the far end of the barn or fence to the exit/entrance.
I honestly found pushing livestock in and out of barns tiresome and time consuming. I stopped taking them out until I got the dog and cat and trained them. The livestocks' friendship levels still grew fast and steady with petting, feeding, brushing, daily treats and Safari. I also rang the bell in the barn (and still do) but not to take them out. I read somewhere that is contributes to rising friendship levels.
Perhaps someone else might know of a better way to use the bell.

I don't use the bell much either, because I have two dogs to do all the herding for me. Most of the time, I use it if my animals are in the way of the door to the barn when I want to leave. To make them move towards me, then to go out.
Once, I stood outside my barn. Right near the door, and rang the bell. My sheep came over, then walked inside all by herself. I didn't have to push her or anything. When I play again, I'll remove my dogs from their herding duties, then use the bell to see if it works again.
You do have to be in a certain range to your animals for them to hear it, and react. When I first got it, I rang the bell in the barn, and all my animals were on the other side of the barn to me, and they didn't react. Same in the pasture.
All my livestock react to it, but my chickens and rabbit doesn't. If you want to use the bell to make herding easier, best to save it for livestock. Leave your chickens and rabbit in the coop until you can get a dog to do that herding for you. They might still build up a tiny bit of stress, but after I get rid of the waste with my pitchfork, pet them all, brush my rabbit, give them treats, add more feed to the feeder if need be, that stress is gone.

Yeah, unfortunately the bell doesn't work for chickens/rabbits. It only works for livestock, but you'll need to stand really close to them.
I don't use mine either.

Animals with the "active" personality suposidly gain hearts when you ring the bell.
I guess it was a waste of money so early in the game. Might find use for it somewhere, or else I'll leave it in the box. Thank you for the replies.
