Honestly the candidates don't excite me much. Nothing wrong if they excite you, don't get me wrong but...
I thought all the TLV ones were okay too, nothing great. Then they came out with Andrea and I was so excited.
The magical ones seem fun too and I was excited about them possibly being.
Why do you make all the ones I just think are okay the 3ds ones? I can only play SoM if I borrow a device since I don't have one it can be played on. -sigh-
Ughhhhh laaaaaame. Pink haired ojousan is so much less exciting if she isn't a lesbian.
I'm going to be really torn between playing as a boy or a girl now :\ I like the mechanic looking girl a lot, but the FeMC's hair is AWESOME and I really want to play her. It will depend a lot on bachelor personalities.
I wonder if they could be swayed to remove marriage genderlock at this point in development. I'll have to post on Natsume forums.

Considering it would probably mean a lot of controversy thanks to the fact that most of their audience lives in countries with extremely conservative and overly vocal people, they're probably just protecting themselves and their sales.
It would take another big, mainstream "family oriented" game from a big publisher to make the first step and come out alive for other developers like Natsume to warm up to the idea.

Considering the success of Stardew Valley though I find it an odd thought they would lose sales really.Getaris wrote:Considering it would probably mean a lot of controversy thanks to the fact that most of their audience lives in countries with extremely conservative and overly vocal people, they're probably just protecting themselves and their sales.

Really, and never thought I'd be saying this cause I overall enjoy TLV more than SOS, at least with the customizing you could make a character that looks like the opposite « Chicken Hugging » and headcannon them as such. That would at least be something.
I wouldn't say Stardew Valley counts that much. It's an obscure digital-only indie game. It is popular on the Internet, like undertale and other such games, but I wouldn't say it's a mainstream thing yet.
Harvest Moon is the kind of game you find in a walmart on a regular town in the US, and the kind of game the regular American mom buys without reading about just because it looks cute. (Btw that's exactly the reason I started playing Harvest Moon, my mom randomly bought HM64 for me. Thanks mom!)

Exactly. Being an indie game gives Stardew a lot more freedom. It's not under the pressure of making a lot of money like big company games. It's not likely it'll be shown on commercials or parents will even know that their kids are playing it if those kids somehow manage to get a hold of it. And it's highly unlikely you'll see it sold in stores. Bokumono games are already a niche, but any indie game is usually more so. My friend's parents who are avid gamers didn't even know Stardew or Undertale existed until they saw us watching videos about it. FNAF is hugely popular, but you won't see it sold in stores.Getaris wrote:I wouldn't say Stardew Valley counts that much. It's an obscure digital-only indie game. I hope this game has decent customization, I don't know if TLV or SOM do, but I'd like to be able to get rid of the boring brown hair and eyes combo and make my character look different from the other villagers. And as much as I love "Sabrina's" outfit, I wouldn't mind being able to change it. Sims 4 just did an amazing thing by making hairstyles and such open, I don't see why HM can't do so with clothes when a similar franchise (SOS) is allowing characters to wear what they want. They can at least do it to make up for the jarring art style.

Really want to like this game but the lack of portraits is something I can't get over. After all, the anime drawing style is what made me pick up HM. The first time I saw the game I was like: EW, farming, really? And then I saw the drawing style and I was sold. They already have art for the characters, why'd you have to do this Natsume?

I think that was part of their spiel though, the HM games are supposed to be less social sim ((not entirely cutting just less)) and more farming than what SoS was. At least that was something I'd read, that Natsume wanted to get back more to the old HM roots of farming being the main focus.OctavieKnite88 wrote:Really want to like this game but the lack of portraits is something I can't get over. I'm kind of not surprised though n the way they're probably going to try to distance themseleves from SoS in the ways they can.

I suppose you have a good point. Yet another reason I'll probably wait for a pre-owned copy. Funny how they want to focus more on farming yet have less animal choices, though.ChaosAzerothCat wrote:I think that was part of their spiel though, the HM games are supposed to be less social sim ((not entirely cutting just less)) and more farming than what SoS was. It's a blessing in disguise.
Tending for animals is slow, and you probably will want to have one or two of each kind, in case you need their materials.
For comparison between the last games in both series...
In TLV, two of each animal + pets is a grand total of 8.
In SoS, one of each farm animal, not even counting the pets or wild critters, is almost twice that amount.
