Bachelor Problems!

Okay so I'm playing as a Female character on the SSI game and I picked Vaughn as my bachelor to woo, well as you know Vaughn only comes to the islands on Mondays and Tuesdays. Well he's at two hearts with me right now and I accidentally saw the black heart rival event for him and sabrina. Well after that I was trying to give him a gift and i accidentally dropped it on the animal item shop floor. Now he's refusing my gifts. Three different days I've tried to give him different items that he likes and he won't take any of them. Where did I go wrong? What do i do to fix it?

they won't take gifts if you've gone too long without talking to them, and trying to give them a gift when they don't want it just extends the amount of time before they'll start taking them again. just talk to him for a few weeks, then try giving him gifts again
