from what i've seen, yes they are gender locked. but i don't know if that is something you can change later on in the game or not?
Ah, thank you for answering!

It never hinder me as I mention, as long as the character have the option of or similar to "calm countenance" eyes in SoS then I'm good. :-)

Okay, will stop freaking out now. Sorry. Have fun! Guess I'll wait til US release. /big sigh =)
I know exactly how you feel.
Same here, i would import if Nintendo didn't region lock.. Like can't Xseed get it localized before 2017 but instead by, like I dunno, next week. lmbo! xD

I was also wondering this and am sad to see that they are still fixed. It is difficult enough to not be able to have same « Chicken Hugging » relationships and work around by crossdressing (something I always do because I love the bachelorettes but definitely do not want to play as a boy). I think I had 1,000 hours in my SoS file and it always bugged me that I had to have boy eyes instead of the cute options the girls had.

One interesting thing about faces: I don't think they are completely gender locked*, but you may need to unlock them through certain requirements.

*Syvle has posted on her blog about this, but it isn't super-clear to me. I would not think the Naruto-like one would be gender locked to girls only unless Marvelous wants player complaints, perhaps there are MaMC equivalents for these faces.

If you see a Frog Bed background, that means it is something that you can do through Witchie. Stall/shop background is Tsuyukusa's Hairdresser.

Pictures of FeMC with MaMC faces (? LOOK AT THE TAGS):

Pictures of possibly completely genderlocked FeMC faces (makeup ones? The ones tagged "New" on the last photo):

tip for getting the king bed (which you need to have a kid): it takes 10 great wool, so get started on giving your sheep those treats and feed as soon as you can because E level to D level takes FOREVER!!!!!!! pretty sure its easier to level up after that but it probably took me like.... 3 seasons just for that...

on that note, because it took me two years i triggered the pregnancy scene right after i built the bed.

I feel the same way. If I do pick a boy file I'm going to bypass all of the male clothes simply because the male sprite's body type bothers me. But the problem is the male faces also bother me.

I can't remember the last time I was this excited for a game. I speak no Japanese so I will have to wait, but this thread is amazing and getting me even more excited. I looked through a few pages but didn't find an answer I was looking for, so I will ask here.

Are there marriage candidates that are more challenging to woo? Sort of like Elise in SoS?Male or female. I love a good challenge.

re the facial feature thing:

to get the ones witchie provides, you have to have a high enough friendship with her.
2 and a half hearts at least.

the "naruto" face isn't locked; there's one both mc.

Not in the Japanese game yet, but the upcoming marriage candidate DLC will unlock two additional candidates that might have more difficult marriage requirements; nobody publicly knows what their marriage criteria will be at the moment.

To anyone who has the game. Do you have to mix material to get new clothes again or do we just buy them? Also would you say it's easier to get new clothes than SoS? It is actually rewarding to get new clothes by gathering materials but it does set you back when you don't unlock animals you want until the next year or so...

About the face choice discussion, all the faces seem to be gender locked. Even the Naruto one, if you look at the images Kasib provided you can see a significant difference that isn't only the paint color, but the females eyes are wider and her eye tips extend a bit as a eye lash. Also they have different names I see from the Katakana, the male one is "Wild Face" female one is called "Exotic Face". I think... I can't brag about my Japanese but that sounds right. ^_^

Honestly I would hope they just allow them to be unisex.

You give the materials & money to one of the vendors which sells clothes, they take a game day to create.

Marie has a lot of recipe dumps on her 3oT blog, they are near the top right now so I won't link to individual posts, but you can see the kinds of materials required by looking at those images. They are mostly player-provided, some of the items can be bought from the vendor, although very pricey if you are the kind of player who struggles with money early on.

the animals unlock depending on how quickly you can get the town ranks up, so you have a little bit more control in that aspect. i think they did a really good job with pacing in this game--if you work your butt off (ship a lot of stuff, talk to everyone, do part time jobs, participate in festivals) it's incredibly easy to rank up.

Thank you Arcy & KonekoChan so much! I'm glad you unlock things based on your hard work. The wait for things is more tedious even when you know you will play the game for that set amount of time, but no matter what work you do it's all restricted. ^^;; So this is lovely. :)

Yeah, it's nice you can actually work to get things unlocked rather than running around harvesting yams waiting for year 4 to get a llama. That way, it's more rewarding, and it feels you're actually working to get SOMETHING done. :)

Just got this game and I'm nearly into summer now! It's so fun :) I'm loving how they developed the series in this title.
