garnet... I've never once heard of the number 6 being unlucky and I've lived in the states all my life :p. 13 is the unlucky number of choice (like friday the 13th, etc)

Indeed it is a glitch... but it's not like it's a game stopping glitch. It's very easy to avoid, and you aren't very likely to stumble onto it by accident let alone onto it several times by accident. I think the majority of people that find it, do it on purpose just to see what happens. The "curious cat" syndrome.
