Stardew Valley

So my brother had recently told me about a Harvest Moon-like game called "Stardew Valley." I looked it up and watched the trailer and I'm really impressed with it. It's like an improved Harvest Moon SNES but with the Rune Factory fighting included as well.
It was created by ConcernedApe and it was released last year. I was curious to if anybody had tried it out and what they think of it?
(I know I'm posting in the non-farming forum, but considering this isn't Natsume or any of the traditionally harvest moon companies it could belong here)

There was a page about the game, but it's disappeared off the front page of this forum group and it's more than likely passed the ten day limit. Some Ushians, myself included, have played the game and love it. I'm waiting for it to come on the Switch so I can play it on the go.
I think I got 4 years into it by the time I got all the achievements I could possibly get in one file. I want to go back eventually and marry Emily as I think she's the best bachelorette in the game. Alex is my favorite bachelor and I married him first, but it was tough choosing between him and Sam.

No idea when it'll be launched on the Switch, but yes, it's coming; it's kind of why the Wii U port was canceled.
Combat is pretty straight forward; you use swords and a slingshot for combat. Swing the sword in front of you and each sword has different strengths and weaknesses. I don't really use the slingshot since I'm not a fan of the mechanic, so I can't really explain it. If I remember correctly, there are only two slingshots anyway.
There are customization options and they're vast; I think 40 different hairstyles, 20 accessories and 108 shirts for customizing the character at the beginning of the game. For combat, you can equip 2 accessories and shoes for stat bonuses.

This was basically me. I thought the mining and farming aspects were fun. I can't fish worth anything though.Mecha-Lollipop wrote:I have it for the PC, played it for like 6 hours straight then never touched it again. Mechanics are fun but the dialogue killed it for me and ultimately in a game like that I find the dialogue very important.
Unfortunately, I'm not attracted to the characters at all. They don't seem to have much soul and that makes me sad. I don't know when I'll be willing to pick it up again with the new SoS game coming out soon and all.

I found the dialogue to be very poorly written and visibly ceinged when I saw how they accept marriage proposals. If someone would patch the game with better dialogue then maybe. I don't even care so much that I'm not attracted to the characters since I can portrait swap.
I just need good dialogue or I don't care about marriage and I only play those kinds of farming games if I can have the farming plus social aspect.

Same here, although maybe not quite that many. Without having it in front of me I'd say 100+ hours, but I haven't played in a while and intend to start a new file soon and get back into it! I actually play completely vanilla but I cannot get enough of this game. So much to do, yet not overly complicated like the newer SoS games are getting (not that I don't love them too, though). Basically the HM game I've always wanted, but yet obviously very different from the series as well.Meriberry wrote:Meanwhile, I'm over here having logged 300+ hours over several different characters. The game itself is fun. It's lacking in some aspects certainly, but no farm-sim has ever been PERFECT. Mods are awesome for things like fishing and altering character appearances.
I can't wait to start a new file and try out the new farm layouts (I've played since the update, but still on my original file)!

I learned about Stardew Valley from this site, I read wikis and watched videos on this game. I so want to play Stardew Valley, and I love the riverland farm start option, And I want to marry Elliot, I like how he starts the game, living on the beach. And I love how fish, beach items, and fish-seafood recipes are his favorite gifts. And he's a novelist with his own bookcase of books.
I like the graphics and the storyline too.
