I always take part in festivals, even if I might lose. I try to be the best immediately, but sometimes that just isn't possible (pet festival in SoS during the first year comes to mind). I do this because I'm greedy and I want everything, including all the townspeople's heartsBlademaster_Aio wrote:Question 3: How quickly do you aim to be 'the best' at festivals? Kibougamine wrote:I participate in each festival if I can, even though I'm 100% positive I'll lose several early on. I do it in part for the FP boost that comes naturally from participating, and also to see the extra dialogue that pops up. Around Fall-Winter if not the second year I start winning consistently, but the first year festivals can be fun surprises. Winning the SoS Fishing festival in my first year was AWESOME!Blademaster_Aio wrote:Question 3: How quickly do you aim to be 'the best' at festivals? I'm the same way. If I win then woohoo but if not then all well lol. Unless there is a prize that I must absolutely have to have then I'll save scum. I do the festivals mostly for fun and to get the extra friendship boosts.

I always try to participate in the festivals even if I know I will lose. I want to see the festival and earn the FP with the villagers. If I do win, well, that is an added bonus. By the middle of year 2 though, I do make a conscious effort to try to win the festivals.Blademaster_Aio wrote:Feel free to answer the previous questions if you want.

Q1: Get the lay of the land, plant some crops. Usually get a chicken first. On that note though:
Q2: If I know who the person I wanna marry is, I aggressively woo them and don't really pay too much attention to the other candidates. I've got no idea what guy I like for this so I'll just try to woo all of them. As for the girls, I'm down to two, though they're all pretty great so that could change.
Q3: I don't really care if I'm the best at festivals except if there's some storyline reason I have to win. Then I get anxious over it.

I try to participate even if I can't win. Attending gets me FP with the townsfolk and breaks up the daily routine. I'll still try to do my best from the start, but I won't beat myself up over anything I can't win early game.Blademaster_Aio wrote:Feel free to answer the previous questions if you want.

Not every entry had a 'beginner rank'. And some festivals just were impossible to win the first time they showed up (like crop festivals without seed maker).
Actually in ANB, everyone was mean to you if you lost, like you were this no-good nobody or something. Rude. I never used to take part in those festivals till I knew I could win.
In SoS everyone cheers you on, win or lose, and they acknowledge your hard work. Motivation to always attend.
But actually, I just play normally. I've never aimed for a win in my first year without the tools on hand, and once you get the tools you usually can't lose... except for the fishing contest in SoS which was evil.
There were some games in which the seedmaker came years late (ToTT).
The critical commentary in ANB didn't bother me. It made me laugh. The ANB townsfolk don't have anything on the King of All Cosmos when it comes to criticism. Apparently the Katamari franchise has innured me against that « Puppy Doodoo ».

This, too. I couldn't participate in the chicken festival in SoS, and apparently you can't even view festivals now? I wasn't allowed on the festival grounds, so I just wandered around, lonely, for three in-game hours until everyone came back.GemiMini wrote:I mostly participate just so I have something to do. The town's typically pretty dead on festival days so I might as well. I'm not too bothered when I lose because usually I know when I'll lose and accept it.
Hehe... well I *hope* that my bark matches my bite, anyway. The fact that the game is brand new and the bachelorettes are less popular to have videos will probably drive me more, too.Blademaster_Aio wrote:I can't break their hearts... even if they're a bunch of pixels with memory loss issuesNurylon wrote:and break all their hearts and then re-date whoever my fave was ':D
I start aiming to win straight away... the sooner I can start winning and get brands, the better >:3 I may even specifically aim for a species or crop that's easier to win with, if applicable.Blademaster_Aio wrote:Question 3: How quickly do you aim to be 'the best' at festivals? I'm glad that the festival difficulties are tied to an option and not the year, though. That put on a lot of extra stress in SoS my powersaves cartridge is permanantly in Year 4 so that I don't have only RNG to compete with OTL
I'll try the festivals a max of like... four times (excluding this one time I made a fashion contest be the flax field contest. I restarted 7 times I really wasn't gonna lose the field.) and if I still don't win I'll accept it (FPs are good either way) but I definitely put up a fight.

I've never picked festivals for my conquests. I just accepted that the game would rig them in my opponents' favour.
Feel free to answer any of the previous questions.
Question 4: Considering we could use blueprints / farm circles to make our farm look nice, how did you utilise this? Was the farm beautiful, completely functional or a mix of both?
I've done them both. I made a farm with paths and fences and roads and the combos arranged nicely, and I've made one filled with combos lumped together that looked so ugly.
Sometimes I wondered why the farm looked so bad, other times I wished I could toss away the fancy decorations for more trees / crops / makers.

Decorating my farm/house is something I always MEAN to do, but never happens. Usually I'm married with child and in year 2 or 3 by the time I think about it, and thus it never happens. I'm going to make an effort this time around to beautify my space. I like that certain crop circles will help with things like colored pearls.Blademaster_Aio wrote:Question 4: Considering we could use blueprints / farm circles to make our farm look nice, how did you utilise this? Oh, this I understand.ryume wrote:Decorating my farm/house is something I always MEAN to do, but never happens.
Everytime I buy / see nice blueprints, I'm like 'I shall put it on my farm' and then I'm like too busy or my materials are being used elsewhere.
Also limited stock in SoS was nonsense, because you are rich like anything, so I'm extremely happy they removed that part in Trio.
