I never name my MC after me. I am not the farmer in my head. I always name them their given name (Pony/Jill in HM DS Cute/Another Wonderful Life, Claire in MFoMT, Annie in SoS, ect) because I almost feel like its... Canon? Like, I'm reading a manga/fanfic or watching anime. I ship Annie x Klaus. Not Me x Klaus lol

nope, but some part of my personality in my MC yes. My MC is always have different name as an OC, except when the MC is fixed, like older DS games. (back then my MC name is always Sakuno but, after ANB, i always changed my MC name)
idk why, i just cant make my character like 50%-100% same like me, in any game that have customized MC (ex: Fire Emblem: Fates, Awakening, SoS)

Usually not. I like to make the MC into more of an OC tbh.
In the older games where we didn't have customization I would play just as the character though (but with a name I chose), but I don't really see the MC as "me".

I role-play, baby. Why self-insert when you can fulfill some fantasy desires?
...
I'm making this sound a lot weirder than it actually is.

I've used the same name for my MCs since Harvest Moon 64. I use Dimitri (or Dmitri for 6-letter limits) for forced male MCs, and Nessav when I am actually able to choose the female gender. Those are the names I use in all of my video games that allow me to name my character.
I'm also an rper and Dimitri is the name of my main oc that I've used for over a decade. Nessav is an old gaming name I've used for forever, though I did name an rp character that at some point, too.

My MC is kinda me, I guess? I say that because I name my HM/SOS MCs (and almost all video game MCs I play) after my second name but I don't fully self-insert. More like, I make my MC the "fictional me" (if that makes sense lol) with, if it's available, red hair and green/gray eyes, and fashion style and personality that are similar to mine.

In the best way possible
I understand what you mean, though. You can live a life you can only dream of.

I mean, like, I guess? My MCs aren't specifically me besides using my actual name, but I don't really give them any personality or character either.
Sometimes it's fun to think up a personality but that's like only for funsies, and even then it's never actually my MC, just a design I wanted to play with.
It'd feel weird to think of them as me or anyone else.

I either use an OC that's been bouncing around in my head for several years, or I base them off characters from video games/books. For example, I used Leon from RF4 as my fishing orientated farmer in Stardew Valley, and in the last SoS I had Harry Potter who had been through a time travelling accident and ended up marrying Mistel Malfoy...
...I may have a tendancy to extrapolate and create random stories.
I'll probably use my OC first playthrough before I think of a suitable character.

I wouldn't really call it an OC. I use a name I like, whether it's after a beloved character, person, or just something that sounds nice. The 6 letter limit is ridiculous; it needs to be at least 8. I tend to change my character and farm name occasionally, too.
It's weird to play as my real self because I just don't fit into that world, if that makes sense. I actually envy others who can play comfortably as themselves. I also envy people whose first names can be shortened into nicknames...

Amazing.

I never self-insert, it feels a little flat to me. I have my own life story so if I imagine my character as myself, I can't make a fitting backstory for them in my head, and I do like to give all my characters their own stories. I switch it up between genders and play characters with different personalities, sexualities, ethnicities, etc from my own.
I just like coming up with a character and imagining how they would react in the different situations in the game.

Ah, finally! I was actually surprised that nobody else uses the default names. I'm a shameless fanfiction author who never changes default, canonical names (except when SoS was first released and I wasn't entirely sure of Annie/Johnny, I used the default Minori for Annie in my stories until the names were confirmed).
I'll keep their names and see how they respond to the little dialogue in the beginning (the reactions above the head) and kinda guesstimate their personality. In fanfiction, I'll play with their backgrounds and personalities to bring them more to life, but it's usually pretty straightforward in the games.
Otome games really get me, too, when their name isn't voiced

The MC is the MC, not me. It's a relatively unpopular opinion to have, I'm told, but I digress.
I do like seeing all the different iterations of the MC, though. I think it's fun that people have such active imaginations and I respect that they can go all out and plan out a backstory, etc.

I use my own name, but I don't think of it as being "me." This might be a little easier, because I do this in basically all games where you name your character? In any event, I don't imagine that I'm the one playing out these events -- rather, I'm controlling an MC that is named after me, who plays through these events.

Yeeeaaahhh like I said earlier the customization options are so poor that it would be very difficult for certain people to make the game character look like them.
Like if you're black like me you're SOL as far as skin color goes.

For all of the older games I never put much thought into the character, but in the previous SoS I actually decided to give the character a personality. Every conversation she had or event that happened, I would play them out like scenes in my head and how MC would react/respond based on who she is. I would even create my own little scenes in my head of stuff that I imaged my character doing around town and her relationship with the characters who aren't bachelors/ettes and such. It wasn't like a self insert, but more like I was actually creating a character. I got so into this that that bachelor I chose to marry was based entirely on the MC and who she would choose based on the type of person she was. I would write down all of the scenes from the game and the ones I made up because I wanted to make a comic, but I never got around to actually drawing it out though.
Doing this made the game so much more enjoyable than any previous games of the series for me because I couldn't wait to see where the MC's life would lead her and how it would play out. I plan on playing the same way with trio of towns. Since Nanami already has a family and a bit of a background, I've already decided on her personality, and I've even tied in her character to my MC from the previous game. I also plan on making my final bachelor choice based on how their heart events affect Nanami based on the personality I gave her.
I'm really excited to start getting invested into the life of Nanami just like I was for the last game!
