I tested a few things out on the wifi trading island and found that if I trade immediately after arriving, I get the same 3 items as the others on the island. I get completely different items if I hold off and go fishing for a bit first. I saw a few people asking about this in other topics so I figured I'd try to find out what I could and share. Does anyone have any more information than this? I haven't tested to see if this is a time thing or if catching fish is required.

I have new information after giving it a few more tries. The stone plinth at the island seems to have an invisible list of random items for each instance of the island. Each player on the island pulls from the same list. Every time you obtain an item (transforming an item at the rock and catching a fish are the only ones I've been able to test so far), you move down the list of items by the same number.

For example: First item transformed gives an black stone, second gives a weed, and third is grape wine. If you want the first and third items but not the second, you would transform one item, catch a fish, then go back and exchange another item. This would allow you to skip the weed and get the grape wine as your second transformation. The third item would then be whatever is next on the list, though you won't have anyway of knowing what's next on the list without someone else's help.
