Do you get lumber straight away or have to axe the branches?

It is cumulative, and you do have to whack the branches to turn them into lumber. Not sure about the exact number though.

Just checked,it takes 20 swings you will have to chop the resulting branches as well as the stump which takes 5 hits,however it can be cumulative

Yeah, it's only day 9 and I want to be ready for the house upgrade this summer. >_<

I don't like trees and debris in the middle of my farm - clearing everything is like my HM must-do.

You can just buy the lumber from the materials shop, you know.

Clearing out the farm is a good idea, but in the beginning when stamina conservation is important (especially if you're playing veteran) it may not be the most feasible, especially since trees will continue to grow on your farm to replace those you've slowly whittled down.

You think that's bad? I had to clear a boulder because it was in the way of my intended farm design. I didn't think I was EVER going to destroy that thing. >_< I'd much rather just buy the materials I need than to bother with another one of those!

The material shop isn't open in my game yet! Not that I need lumber right now, of course.

I thought I'd try to play this new HM "slowly, relaxed, peacefully" and just can't do it. I *have* to get this or that done. I have to max out my day and cram everything in. It's how I've played them since like original gameboy HM.

This SoS2 better not have me printing out spreadsheets calculating sun/water points for perfect S crops. Yes, it can get excessive.

Also the softwood trees are a lie. Nothing soft about them. Took like 50 whacks to take one down. Almost fainted (glad I restarted as a seedling lmao).

The material shop should open within spring. Definitely before the first renovation is available, anyway.

I will attest that a couple of upgrades will make things much easier, especially effectiveness, but it's usually more important to get things like the hammer and watering can up and running than the axe, alas.
