Paths with trees/bushes blocking them

Does anyone know if/how these become unblocked, allowing more farm space or unlocking certain types of harvesting, like bees and flowers in the last game? I can't find any info on it.

I just unlocked the one to the west after I completed the first list of farm tips. I imagine the rest unlock the same way. It does indeed provide additional space for fields, etc.
