Bless you for this reference
It's part of his research. However something's telling me otherwise.
I have a (very tentative) theory that maybe each medicine has a consistent effect? By that I mean... hm. Here let me give my example.
I've only done this request from Ford 3 times, which is definitely not a statistical sample or anything like that lol, but so far the results have been consistent.
First time - picked "bottle with blue cap" -- it did nothing.
Second time - picked "light blue ampoule" -- filled up my stamina
Third time - picked "bottle with blue cap" again -- again it did nothing
So I'm speculating - just speculating at this point - that maybe each medicine will always do the same thing (e.g. "bottle with blue cap" will always do nothing, etc)
Whether this is actually correct or if I just randomly happened to get this coincidence remains to be seen. xD The job does not show up very often for me to test it yet.
The two times I've taken the job I've tested it a little bit and the options seem to have the same results. For me both times the Red Ampoule has always recovered my stamina 100%, the blue label, red cap, and blue cap ones have all been a 10% or 20% recovery. I haven't run into the negative ones yet.

You are actually quite on the spot. Each bottles seem have set specific effects. There is already a post shared about it on gamefaq. Here you can read about them:
Green ampoule either reduces stamina by or to 20% (he said "your stamina is now at 20%" but I was pretty low health already so I couldn't tell if it was reducing by 20 or to 20)
Always says he'll pay 1,500. Always pays out around 2,200. So far about a third of the time I get bad results. If that happens I just eat something at the restaurant. Easy money.

Here, I'll quote it.
Medical Test Subject
From time to time, you might see a part-time job from Ford, asking for someone to be a medical test subject. If you accept the job, you will go to Ford's clinic, and he will ask you to choose a medicine container to try. The medicines can have good effects, like restoring all of your stamina, or they might have bad effects, like reducing your stamina by a large amount! This part-time job pays better than other part-time jobs, so you will have to decide if it is worth the risk. Below is a list of medicine effects, but the actual effect might be random.
-Bottle with light-blue label: Reduce stamina by 20%
-Red ampoule: Raise stamina to maximum
-Orange Ampoule: You get a temporary discount at all shops
-Bottle with yellow label: Raise stamina by 10%
-Bottle with red label: Raise stamina by 10%
-Bottle with yellow cap: No effect
-Bottle with red cap: Recover 10% stamina

Yeah I must have misread it the first time, I thought it was 150.. Got it again recently and it says 1,500. Its really easy money! I was really surprised to get that much money early on.
I love his chores, simple, easy, and pay well not to mention there's a small gamble for energy gain/loss with a bunch of money (I'm nearly at rank B and he pays 3000+ gold.
The only jobs I am likely to avoid are the wood-cutting ones (unless it's the old lady elder, can't spell her name, she only requires you to chop 5 logs not 20 and tsuyukusa(?) village cause they always ask for wood cutting and delivery jobs...)

I love the wood chopping. One of the jobs only requires hitting the "A" button.
No complaints I'm just glad you do, I prefer active involvement rather than passive repetition, I also do horribly with rhythms so i either hit too soon or sometime after the log shows up. My actual favorite are the deliveries, it allows me to actually find villagers i might not talk to as often, particularly with moriya and ludus giving me about 2-4 packages each.
Wow, Ford must hate me. I have only had the experiment go right once and even then it was only because I was savescumming. At least he pays you to keep quiet -- uh, I mean he reimburses you when it fails.
Yeah getting volunteers to help test out possible new medications is actually a pretty common medical practice. Granted they don't work the same way Ford is doing it but the experimenting itself is still there I guess lol. I personally would be more irritated at his experimental design but aside from that, it's why a lot of college students are the rest subjects for these kinds of things. They get paid a decent amount to take a drug and then come back and report how they were feeling and stuff. College kids and farmers apparently
