Great game but . . .
Hey Guys! Just want to vent out some personal opinions on ToT, just some minor things here and there. I want to know if it's just me or others are annoyed by this as well. So far it's just two things since I'm still in Spring.
- Upgrading tools .. effectiveness vs weight. Ugh, I find this super annoying. It feels like it would take FOREVER until you can actually have a well worthy tool.
- Large&Small Animal Barns ... I don't understand why this became a thing. Why would I want a barn/coop with the capacity of one animal?

For the tools, I find it easy when you upgrade your hammer's effectiveness first. It gives you access to the rest of the mind nodes and the gems become easier to get. And when you get to...I think Town Rank D in Westown, the Material Vendor will sell materials to be readily available should you be short on materials.
They're there at the beginning to give you a start. When Lulukoko unlocks, you can get the large barn and hold 4 animals. You can move the animals from the small barn/coop into the large one, dismantle the small barn/coop and get the materials so you can make a new large barn/coop.
It is different than what we're use to, that's for sure. At least materials are easy to come by whether that's chopping trees, mining or buying the necessary materials.

Am I the only one who actually likes the small barn? Sure it only holds one animal, but I don't need a lot of animals.- Large&Small Animal Barns ... I don't understand why this became a thing. Why would I want a barn/coop with the capacity of one animal?

Ah, I will consider doing that next. I went straight to working on my Axe because I figured I needed it most to collect Lumber for farm circles. I was actually thinking of leaving my Hammer for third and work on my Watering Can next because watering my crops already takes my stamina down by 2.5 hearts. Then again, it is watering a 3x3 field vs 1 and I am using all fields available.

Haha! I like having a lot of animals for demand. How would you go on about only receiving 1 wool a day later on in the game?
You're definitely not the only one who likes small barns. I love them because they take up less space, and are convenient for fitting in my farm's layout. Plus, the ability to bread baby animals in a large barn is just not for me, so I'll always use small barns/coops.Shan O 123 wrote:Am I the only one who actually likes the small barn? Animal treats can multiply your wool/milk/etc.WPrincess wrote:Shan O 123 wrote:Am I the only one who actually likes the smell barn? Yeah, you really only NEED one sheep, as it'll give you 20 wool every day once you've given it enough chewy treats. What I dislike about the large/small barn situation is that 4 small barns takes up only 8 squares and houses 4 animals, whereas the large barn takes up 9 squares to house the same. It's like buying a bulk pack for MORE money. :/ I think the big barn should either only take up 6 squares, or if it has to take up 9, then it should house 6 animals.
No big deal, though. It's just a bit odd and I can't figure out why they'd make the large barn less practical that way.

THAT is my problem with it.Kikki wrote:Yeah, you really only NEED one sheep, as it'll give you 20 wool every day once you've given it enough chewy treats. IF time stopped in buildings then there'd be more of an advantage ((in my opinion at least)) to have more animals in one place. But to me, if they are next to each other I feel like the going between barns is negligible and the space is a bit more important.
Unless baby animals keep more stats than I'm aware of?
The barn size upgrade is heckin obnoxious IMO. I get that it's more of a yard space upgrade than anything else, but It's just annoyingly large. You could fit four birds in that small coop easily. Even in the tiny yard. Maybe not the barn, but still. I like the attached fencing, but I think the first SoS handled barns much better.
I think what I'll end up doing is making a bunch of small barns and coops now that I've got my second piece of farmland unlocked (trees. trees EVERYWHERE. Also those heckin boulders, UGH.), and just having one animal in each. It might be a bit more work, but I'll take that over losing 3/4ths of my farming space...
That said, I do like the new treat system. I wish I could stuff them full of treats. XD

You "pay" an extra slot in order to have all animals in one place + breeding pen, or you can still place 4 barns and jump from one to another and have that one extra square on your field.

You don't really lose that much farming space: 8 squares instead of 9 squares for 4 animals -- with two big barns and one big coop, you only lose 3 total squares over using small barns. That's one and a half field plots. Certainly not three quarters of your land!Meriberry wrote:The barn size upgrade is heckin obnoxious IMO. After reading all of this, I'm wondering if it would be better to take apart my large barn and downgrade to 4 small barns... More space for crops and other things that way. But Do you think it would eat up more time having to run in and out of multiple barns compared to one large barn?
As for the tools, I actually like the 'dot' system. I guess this can be said for crops and animals too, as I just like the fact that there is more to work on than a simple single upgrade or amount of hearts per animal. I think it will keep me invested in the long run, rather than starting a new save file half way through year 2.

Yeah, place the barns and then tell me your main field didn't lose 3/4ths of it's space.Feather Qwill wrote:You don't really lose that much farming space: 8 squares instead of 9 squares for 4 animals -- with two big barns and one big coop, you only lose 3 total squares over using small barns.
