I kind of like the new features that they added like both of those things the OP mentioned lol probably just me though, I think they're an interesting new part of the game. I'm also more easy going and get less upset by different parts of these games compared to the majority of people though apparently haha

That's one and a half field plots. Certainly not three quarters of your land!Meriberry wrote:The barn size upgrade is heckin obnoxious IMO. I get that it's more of a yard space upgrade than anything else, but It's just annoyingly large. You could fit four birds in that small coop easily. Even in the tiny yard. Maybe not the barn, but still. I like the attached fencing, but I think the first SoS handled barns much better.
I think what I'll end up doing is making a bunch of small barns and coops now that I've got my second piece of farmland unlocked (trees. trees EVERYWHERE. Also those heckin boulders, UGH.), and just having one animal in each. It might be a bit more work, but I'll take that over losing 3/4ths of my farming space...
That said, I do like the new treat system. I wish I could stuff them full of treats. XD
... But the small barns take up space, too. And it doesn't take very long to unlock the other two fields, and that adds a huge amount of space. Heck, even on your main farm, you could have 1 big barn, 2 small barns, 1 big coop, a pet house to take care of those ten animals, and still have room for 11 fields (22 crops) + one space left over.
Alternatively, you could have those same 10 animals in individual barns, 1 pet house, and get 1 more field (2 crops) out of it, but lose even more time hopping in and out of barns all day.
(But if you're so early in the game that you only have one field, you won't have the time or the stamina to take care of half of that anyways.)
Well... really only if it's raining (in which case you gain time back from not watering), or you have to refill their food. If you have enough herding pet levels then you can just wait to take care of your animals until they're all outside. Esp. since the goods don't go flying into nowhere anymore, and their individual fences keep them from crowding.Meriberry wrote:, but lose even more time hopping in and out of barns all day.
Oh, and chickens/quails. You have to go inside their coops to collect their eggs. But tbqh with the chickens it's either 'have one of each for three smalls' or 'have a large and be forced to have a fourth chicken or waste an animal space' it's kinda a unique balance with chickens.
How many days can we not collect chicken eggs and not have them start disappearing, anyway? I think my max I experimented with was five days in SoS.
Unless you mean the literal act of hopping over their fence, but... in which case I don't understand what you mean, that really takes so little time it's negligible? The fence sizes are the same size as your hop size, so you can chain hop with one button press.
#teamsmallbarns
I honestly love the larger barn and coops... i love that it is so roomy. in a certain way it is kind of "realistic" ish... giving the animals more roaming space and whatnot... though I wish I could have had an extra space in the barn for 5 and maybe 6 in the coop for their sizes or the coop being 2 by 3 or something XD....
But otherwise I'm very happy with them. currently though I don't have all the room i want for all my trees and crops XD which sucks... contemplating on how to rearrange when i unlock the second map... >_> I kinda went all nuts and have 2 towns ready to go to b rank if i finish one requirement each and the third is on c almost to the lock while still beginning of summer... so I may be way ahead of myself

Not a big fan of the barn sizes. But I'm trying to remember that I think this game is trying to encourage you to have less animals? With the treats and all, you don't need more than one of each kind.
I really don't like the tool upgrade system though. It feels like a way to pad out the game without actually adding any new game play, if that makes sense? Now instead of gathering materials so that my tools take less stamina and work more efficiently, I have to upgrade it like three times to get the same effect since I have to upgrade stats individually? Just my personal opinion though.

I feel that in some ways, but at the same time it's FAR better padding than SoS in my opinion. At least to me, while it IS a bit of a pain in the « Mr.Gourmet's hat » it also feels like I'm more involved and planning what to do first and all.
That being said the whole 1x3 and 3x1 really seem... I mean what is up with this? IDK I'd rather have 2x2 but that's probably just me.

I want 2x2 as well! I think I'll keep my 1x2 until I have enough materials to get my watering can to 3x2, and keep it there. 5x5 seems excessive (and it's frustrating that it's an odd number when the fields are all in sets of two!). 4x4 might have been a better 'max' size.ChaosAzerothCat wrote:IheartGil>.< wrote:Not a big fan of the barn sizes.
