Just was curious to see everyone's take on having so many NPCs in the towns in this game! I know the last SoS had them as well, but I almost feel like they're more noticeable in this one? Possibly because they all have more interesting stuff to say and have outfits depending on the town they're in. Anyways, do you love 'em? Hate 'em? Or do you just not care either way for them?
I personally love them! I feel like they make the game and the villages so much livelier and some of them have super cute and funny things to say. Not to mention I want some of their outfits.
NPCs!!
I love them! I've always headcanoned that the towns in HM/SoS games have more people than what's shown, since it doesn't make sense that a fully functioning town would only have around ~30 people. The ones with portraits are just the ones that are of interest to the MC. The NPCs in this game make the towns feel so much more alive, especially since there's less people in each town. The references to real-life figures are cute too.
I love having NPCs in the town, since it gives the illusion of the three towns being connected to the outside world in some way. If there were no NPCs, the towns would feel really empty with only 12-16 villagers, especially if more than half sit around tending a shop all day. I think it was ANB that had a really massive town space, but no NPCs, so the whole place felt kinda dead and empty.
Also a nice plus, is that half of my town isn't filled up with random StreetPass farmers I've played with online. Hated how 75% of my NPCs in SOS were farmers from online multiplayer, and the other 25% just spouted random « Puppy Doodoo » about how lively Oak Tree Town was with lots of vendors.
