How to get rid of dead crops?

Okay I just started fall so I try use the sickle. but my dead crops will not go away. each time I try use it somersetting that looks like yellow lighting shows up. around the crop I'm trying to get rid of.

sorry if this dose not sound right. I never had to deal with this before in the past two seasons.

Otherwise, put the plot of dirt in your pocket and it should clear everything.

I wound up doing this because it was taking FAR too long to cut that stuff down with the sickle. -_-
