Do furmiliars continue to do their assigned work?

Once you put a pet as your Furmiliar, what changes? Will they still herd your animals/seek out items?

If your furmilliar is a herder I don't think it will. Scavengers on the other hand may not at first, but as they level up and you get close to them they'll start to bring you items from their scavenging category, and usually those items are rarer or more valuable than you would get on a day to day basis from a pet that wasn't your furmilliar. For example, my cat forages for ores/building items and while before I made her my furmilliar she would bring me common gems or branches/rocks, she now brings me a diamond or other rare ores every once and awhile.
