Question about triggering events

So, I've kind of noticed that I can only seem to trigger one friendship/love event per day. I'm just wondering if this is actually the case in this game or if I've just had bad luck? Whenever I'm trying to trigger a specific event I end up accidentally triggering a different one, and then I can't get the one I'm aiming for even though I'm in the right place at the right time on the right day.

It is possible to trigger events on festival days (the ones where stores remain open) though. I celebrated the Thanksgiving festival event with Ludus and then triggered one of his flower events later the same day.
