Thinking about getting a (NEW)3DS(XL) sent from North America, down to my country of New Zealand (since I'm tired of these darn EU releases..as I've said many time lately lol)
What sort of prices for they go for in America? And does anyone know of any good sites to purchase from? Ebay and Amazon aren't big here so I don't know much about them.
Getting a (NEW)3DS(XL) Sent from NA to NZ...
Try here. I personally have only bought from this site once, but I didn't have any problems and I know other people who like to use this site. I did look into it, and they DO sell to NZ. They sell lots of other things too, so if you ever find yourself needing any new tech stuff, this might be a good place to look!

I've always used playasia for importing my handhelds to Australia (have done so several times and they've always gotten to me and worked great). I haven't actually used playasia in a while since I haven't needed any new consoles and have been buying my games either digitally or through amazon.
If you do go with newegg make sure to set the shipping region to NZ so you can see which of their 3ds options will be able to be shipped to you (I just checked out of curiosity and the only one that shows up is the bravely default collectors edition, there were more options but only when shipping was set to US)
I pretty much buy all my physical version games from amazon (but if it's a game I can't wait to play like SOS:TOT I get it digitally too because waiting for the delivery takes forever! though i just checked and it only took a week for it to get here which really feels fast considering it came all the way from America, but then again some thongs shipped to me from within Australia have taken way way longer.
And then I use the site pc game supply to purchase Nintendo eshop cards so i can purchase games digitally (play asia offered this service last I checked). Do keep in mind that even if using eshop cards you are required to set a zip code in the eshop so taxes can be applied to your purchase* (I googled around about zip codes and nintendo eshop tax amounts and choose the one I felt worked best)
*using memory skills on this bit so info may be slightly off or possibly even way off the mark
Make sure you'll have a way to charge your new console too! AU 3ds adapters work fine on a US 3ds so the same is probably true for a NZ charger
you could try googling for discussions by other people from NZ about importing and what sites they recommend, every country is always different.
You may want check out your country's customs policies too? not sure on that one but it's good to be informed. I didn't research into that stuff but as a consequence I always worry the games and/or consoles I've imported will be sent away without ever reaching (probably overly dramatic and somewhat irrational but that's just who I am, and it could be remedied by checking into that sort of thing but life is making that sort of thing somewhat impossible for at the moment.) sorry if this was rambling and riddled with errors but I thought I'd at least try to help out.
