I didn't choose charmer the first time I barely even noticed the 'no colour' dialogue...I don't recall anything special...so I would happily choose Charmer next time. :) Plus all it would take is one 'bad' present and they'd instantly in the first category again. Some people really seem to care about that dialogue, though.

If you're referring to the first dialogues they give you, the "oh it's nice to have a new farmer, person in town, blah blah blah" that everyone gives you, along with the "idt we've met yet" stuff, hen you do still get it with the charmer trait

I went with Animal Lover. It's pretty handy.

Ah, ok. Might go with charmer then. And, now that I think about it, the HM wikia usually has most characters' first dialogues anyway.

I did Veteran/Charmer and I had very little problems winning the first few festivals. I ended up doing some money tricks (cornmeal flatbread mostly) at the end of my first year but that was so I could buy upgrades that were like 350,000G, which I think Tycoon would hardly help at that point. imo the black flower lines typically aren't too interesting anyway so I don't really have an issue with skipping them.

Seedling tycoon; you can buy a cow and chicken in the first week. It's really only useful in the beginning though. I am in yr three now and have 24 million G. If only real life were this easy... sigh...

Seedling Charmer here. I like it. Money isn't hard to make (I keep surprising myself by how much I have, and I'm not even trying that hard...)

I don't get it either. The dialogue we'd get is always the same, nothing special. And like you said one bad gift and there we go. I feel like I'm not missing out with the dialogue.
