Seedling with Tycoon.
Enough money at the start to buy materials for barn/coop and a cow/chicken.
You'll end up with millions later but it was nice to have "seed money" right from the start. Easy playstyle.
Some like Charmer so you start with 1 heart with everyone (free lunches/dinner) but that too gains fast if you attend all the festivals, etc.
Have fun! Read the play guide fogu.com/sos2 for more info.

If you are confident in your management skill choose Veteran with Tycoon. You will start with 50K if you choose Tycoon.

I chose Tycoon for my first file and it IS very useful, but even so, I found myself frequently wishing, for my first three game seasons, that I had chosen 'charmer' instead. Money is really easy to make in Trio once you unlock enough ingredients at the stores (so even people who hoard like crazy can have loads to sell), but you can only get friendship bit by bit, so especially with folks like Yuzuki who come later, I wished I'd already had that one heart of FP built in.
Tycoon is a good choice. Charmer is just as good...it really depends on what would make the game most fun for you to play. If you want to get your FARM life more established first, Tycoon. But if you want to have your SOCIAL life more established early on, then definitely Charmer. Do you want to be able to marry off your character early, or would you rather get your farm running efficiently before that?
Having tried Tycoon on my first try, for ME I can honestly say that I think my best trait for if I were to restart my first file would be Charmer, as I understand now how to make money and wouldn't need the monetary assistance. But if you haven't played it yet, depending how much of a hoarder you are, it might take you a bit to get a good clump of money, and if that's your type then Tycoon might be the best. If you're type who's too worried about requirements to sell ANYTHING, so you just hoard it all, then money will be tough and Tycoon would be the best of all, I think.

And, if you pick Tycoon you could have an easy start in the first competitions and end the first farming tips earlier.
Because of this I´ve won the spring harvest festival and the summer animal festival really easy, because I could effort treats for my cow and fertilizer.
Even a second cow and a big barn were no problem.

I'm playing seedling mode with the charmer trait and I still find it incredibly easy to make money, even in the beginning. Yes I'm sure it's not AS easy as if I had picked the tycoon trait, but I'm still thinking I should have picked veteran because of how easy it is. Granted I'm glad I didn't because I'm glad I have an easy and relaxing play through my first time through, but I personally would choose the charmer trait again if I played seedling. The boosts you get from eating meals from people is huge, so the charmer trait really does a lot for you in that aspect so long as you manage to find someone to eat lunch with midday since usually I'm below 50% stamina by the time I'm done with all my chores.
Noticed it's only people who have picked either charmer or tycoon trait that have commented though, curious to see if anyone who picked one of the other ones has anything different to say

I chose veteran with the fishing trait and I still won all the animal/vegetable festivals easily. I was playing slow and didn't get my cow until towards the middle of Spring and I still won :/
It really depends on how you play the game I think.
I find this one relaxing with set goals that you can do in your own pace.

I second this. I picked Charmer and it was still wicked easy to make money. I definitely recommend picking charmer, it's pretty helpful! Also means you get to see more events right off the bat!

Seedling mode with Charmer over here and I'm happy with it. I suck at befriending everyone so that extra FP really helps.

IDK I picked tycoon on veteran and had I not been a little lazy I'd probably be a lot farther and possibly done by now. x3 ((I play a LOT though, even when I don't DO much.)) Mostly didn't feel like running back and forth to eat a bunch, COULD have really done more. ((That and not checking a guide half the time but that's not trait based so..))
In the end thought, as already stated, it really heavily depends how you play.

Tycoon is really nice, and given OP content I'd actually probably recommend it more than what I did. Tycoon is (hugely) beneficial for mostly the first Spring and Summer, so it's a very friendly short term boost. For me I prefer longer term benefiting traits... +I didn't end up getting a cow or etc. things people tended to want fast until Autumn after Inari unlocked.
I picked Sports Enthusiast (Seedling), because stamina in my worst enemy and I want nothing to do with it. Now, that I'm in Autumn of Year 2 with the max ten hearts, I effectively have "infinite" stamina unless I decide to chop or hammer farm blockages in a typhoon or blizzard, or an entire farm side that I've neglected at once and also had nothing on it.
Another main reason I picked Sports Enthusiast was because I had no intentions of marrying until post-DLC so that I could meet Stephanie, and I'm estimating about half a year on that (we have no official TBA though, please don't quote me on that), but as of a few irl-days ago I'm now married to Inari, anyway. So now I've run out of time where the trait does anything for me. Yay?
This is kinda weird because when my housemate choose this trait I was like, 'nnnnnooo you could pick something better' and I had never considered it before, but honestly if I could 'go back and re-choose' I would probably choose Animal Lover. Because of pets. Pets raise FP sssssoooooo slow, my over a year old Pyrenees has like 2 hearts.

I did Seedling/Tycoon and life is *easy.* It's very nice. I really appreciated the leg up it gives you.
Personally, I would never want "charmer," because you skip introductory dialogue for some people (right?). It's extremely easy to make friends in this game, so charmer also feels extraneous.

Thank you all for the kind, helpful responses guys! I'll go with Seedling Tycoon!

Ooh, thank you for posting this. I'm just about to start the game, and had decided to go with Charmer instead of Tycoon, but I hadn't even thought of missing out on characters' initial dialogue. Tycoon it is!
