Have you ever ruined your file?

Have you ever made a silly mistake in a HM/SoS game that's ruined the whole file for you? And did you end up giving up on the file or did you work really hard to resurrect it?

Recently in BTN, I forgot to tell Cliff about the job at the winery in Fall. And it was the day the job was starting and I'd saved the night before so I couldn't go back and fix my mistake and ugh my heart SANK. I DIDN'T WANT CLIFF TO MOVE AWAY. AND THIS FILE WAS GOING SO WELL.

I was seriously considering just giving up on the file because I'm a bit of a perfectionist and I really wanted to see him and Ann getting married at some point. So I just sprinted straight to the church to see Cliff IN PANIC. And!! I still managed to trigger the dialogue for offering him the job!! I really didn't think it would work but ahhh my panic paid off and now my file isn't ruined. So top tip - you can tell Cliff about the job at the winery on the morning of the start date! He'll say like 'Great! I'll be there tomorrow!' but it still works lol.
So I mean...I didn't ruin my file. But that brief moment of heartbreak was scary.

I feel you on the Cliff thing, I always get nervous when a character's presence depends on me doing a cut scene right.

BUT YES. Yes I have ruined a file before, and I know I've told this story before on ushi at some point, but here it is.

One of the first times I played MFoMT, maybe the first, I was incredibly eager to get Doctor to his red heart. Every time his heart raised a level, I got so hyped, but was frustrated that it took longer each time. But when his birthday came around and I gave him a gift, it jumped his heart a whole level to orange, and that gave me an idea. I decided to sleep through an entire year of the game, doing NOTHING but waking up and sleeping. I didn't grow crops, I didn't take care of animals, I didn't make any money. All so that it could be his birthday again.

It took a long time to do that, but finally it was his birthday again, so I giftwrapped his fav item and hurried over to the clinic. Now imagine the horror for my elementary school heart when I talked to him and his heart had DROPPED a level from being ignored for a year! So all my gift did was raise him to the level he had been at before the sleeping year started. Needless to say, I raged quit and the file was ruined.

Looking back this sounds like an episode of the Twilight Zone HAHA

Dude, YES.

When I played SoS, I always got impatient waiting for Kamil to come and ended up dating one of the other boys. Then I'd unlock Kamil in the Spring and regret everything.

SoS's breakups are notorious for a reason; I never fulfilled the requirements for one. So I restarted... three times? Maybe four? And by Fall I was tired of being single and fell into the same trap.

SoS was difficult for me

i've never ruined my whole game with one big mistake, but i have made a bunch of little mistakes that resulted in me having to grind longer to make up for them. the most file-ruining thing i've ever done is overwrite my game on accident (once in ds cute, and once in anb)

Almost couldn't marry Elliott in SI. It was my first game it took me forever to actually figure it out.

I often think that if it wasn't for guides, I would never figure out how to marry in most HM games. Given how specific heart events/requirements can get, I really wonder how anyone can get far in these games without help of some sort.

lol i keep misreading it too

Omg Terra that took such dedication to sleep for a whole year?? Like good plan but not actually very efficient! I'm impressed his heart level only went down by one colour though nice.

Yeah ha if his heart color was the only thing that changed, I might have been able to salvage the file, but it was more that I had neglected my farm for a year that was the big problem @_@ hard to come back after that.

Yeah I mean did you have animals?? Did you sacrifice all your animals just to celebrate Doctor's birthday?? Amazing.

I remember when I was little, I had a friend that slept right through to Year 4 in BTN to 'complete the game' and see how the villagers rated her after the 3 year time limit. They kicked her out of course lol.

I might have had a chicken, but I know I didn't have other animals because I wouldn't have been able to go through all the funerals

would've been too sad.

ANYWAYS, I haven't done anything to completely ruin a file for me, but I've made a few little mistakes having me to restart my day. Nothing really major happened in a HM game for me.

Accidentally *threw the cursed hammer on the ground in DS cute and saved because I thought I could get a new one afterwards and didn't have enough money or bag space (can't remember) to get it blessed. Ouch. ;;
