I don't go after jerks. Yeah I'm looking at you Neil!

Also the age thing definitely. If I hear Klaus One more time somebody's getting punched.

I'm totally seconding the age thing lol.

Mentioning it once or twice isn't a problem at all, but...

It's. Every. Single. Time that's the problem.

I'd say the only with the right to compare their age to yours would be Griffin. Considering he's probably about 30 years older than you. Maybe more.

Yeah, the comparing age thing must be in the newer games? Because I haven't heard much about it until recently. Maybe I'm just forgetting, but I don't remember any of the candidates talking about it in Mineral Town or AWL. (Muffy does mention her age sometimes, but not in an annoying way imo)

It's just Klaus and Soseki from what I've seen.

I was personally talking about Soseki and Klaus.
Both are nice bachelors, but they bring up their ages a bit too much for me to marry them.

Griffin's last heart event has him talking to the farmer, and:
Spoiler:
Copied from fogu's guide;
Griffin finally decides to ask how you see a man around his own age. It's a difficult thing to say, but can you see him being in the role of a love's target?
I haven't married him, so I have no idea how he is after marriage, but that event seems like a pretty good way to handle their age gap to me. (as in talk about it for once to check if it's okay)

But I'll stop here, sorry for derailing the thread!

Sanne: Don't worry about it, you didn't derail anything! I agree about Griffin, mentioning it once or twice is fine.

Oh geez, I'm extremely superficial with the candidates, as in I only consider marrying them if they're cute. Then I look at their personalities, and decide from there. The weirdest deal dealers come from the outfits that are worn by bachelor(ette)s though. For example, I never considered marrying Rick, Elliot, Fritz, Rod, etc, just because I didn't like their clothes.

Hair color is another strange factor for me, but now I realize that most bachelors don't have any cool colors, as the girls are usually the ones with the colorful hair. I might be the only one with this pet peeve, but I don't like characters with vivid yellow hair, yet I still marry them anyways. Unless it's a Rune Factory game, I find myself marrying people with more natural hair colors.

Jobs are another thing; theoretically, I don't want to be married to a part-time hobo. Kind of a deal breaker for people like Soseki, and half of Forget-Me-Not Valley. Also don't want to be married to a complete workaholic.

If they don't live with you, then I don't marry them. What's the point of getting a large bed if they won't even sleep with you?

If they're boring or too serious, it's a no-no for me. I could never get into characters like Lloyd, Marlin, Carter, Ludus, etc.

If they're too childish and cheerful, filled with sunshine, rainbows, and sugar, then it's a big "no thanks". Never really liked Daisy, Amber, Celia, or Katie.

One word, jealousy. Every time I play TOTT, I got Dirk and Mikhail threatening me for foregiveness and extra attention. The hell? I'm married. :shifty:

Finally, the most important one, their facial expressions. They're some characters with really scary angry faces, like Doctor and Rick in (M)FOMT, Ludus, Hinata, Dirk, Carter, Marlin, etc. I almost didn't marry Kamil because of his blushing face; poor thing looked like he was choking himself.

(Sorry for the long list :o )

I never marry to the oldest bachelor, you know .. Soseki, Klaus, Ford (and almost all bachelors from DS cute). I'm 19 years old, so it feels like they're significantly older than me.

Also tsundere ones are not exactly my favorites, I guess the only exception was Vaught, but anyway, by the end I married Denny instead.

I can't stand doctor types, especially overly stiff doctor types. I'd be way into the more older gentlemen if they didn't talk about their age all the time. For girls, generally I'm not into the "staple farm wife" trope (Cecilia, Renee, Mist from RF, etc.) especially if the game tries to spoon feed you romance-y stuff or the girl has it bad for you from the get go. Fortunately, there isn't a lot of that anymore, but yeah.

For my types, I'm a huge sucker for tsuns, the occasional genki dude (dirk, ash), broody/grumpy boys (neil, kurt), big brother types (see my icon/signature set), and muscles (also see my signature set). Also the occasional cheerful girl usually related to food or food worker (Katie from MM/HoLV, Maya, and Collette from RF3 I think). Oh, and I'm a HUGE fan of non-natural hair colors, which is probably why I adored ToT/AP as much as I did.

Maybe not silly but as much as I've wanted to marry some of the "special" Bachelor/ettes (like Harvest Goddess, Harvest King, Witch Princess, Kappa, Won, Jamie, ect.), either their ridiculous requirements put me off or the fact their post marriage stuff sucks. Some don't even live with you and some either end the game right after the wedding or prevent you from procreating. It just feels like a trophy of how much you're dedicated to the game but it's not very...special. Like the Kappa is downright creepy as a husband/dad in MFOMT, Harvest Goddess is always "KTHXBYE" after you very briefly talk to her for her events, Jamie ends the game on both boy or girl MC weddings, and so on. Give me a special bachelor/ette that isn't such a dang letdown. I don't care if they are celestial being, if they knock up my girl!MC, they better be involved and if my boy!MC gets them pregnant, then don't just dump the kid off and tell me "Have fun, sport! I'm too important for this child-rearing stuff! BYE!"

@jzwolf I have to admit, that made me laugh quite a bit. Reminds me of zeus's love life now that I think of it. He was very kthxbye as well. It would be interesting to see the harvest goddess adjust to domestic life.
