I saw that + quality wool can be used for regular products and + products
Does this apply to everything else? Are there any draw backs to maxing out the animals on product quality?

The town ranks require, 30 wool, 15 alpaca wool, 10 rabbit fur, all normal. Also some clothes and farm circles may also need normal wool, unprocessed, so can't use +.
But you could always put a new barn, buy-shear-sell a few animals if you need some normal wool. If you do that, put a giraffe statue on that barn, it gives 1 extra product. Doesn't stack tho, so just one.
The only animals I keep now at A rank are the chickens, and that's just cos I like the 3 fried eggs recipe. Imagine you can do without that one easily, as far as I know it is the only recipe that only works with normal products.
