I'd theorize that the timeline of Trio of Towns takes place from the late 1800s to the early 1900s. The noticeable tech is Hector's talk-radio and the Performer guy, instead of movies or television. Sure, Daryl writes that he buys a car, but it's likely to be a Model T Ford. And Hinata is a actor for theatrical plays on a stage, he is not a tv/movie actor.

Daryl mentioned he have car in his letter, also Daryl clothes looks is literally modern business-men clothes
I take it that their entire village is a small secluded village Faraway, that they didn't need TV
Plus it's Canon, that 3oT is 2 decades away from first SoS (dessie mentioned it's been a decades since human can see her, I can assume it, it only 2 decades, so it makes the MC age is about 23-25)

For one, cars became common to own in the 1920's after the 'invention' of the assembly line by Henry Ford and mass production of goods became the norm, which is why cars were finally affordable to the 'everyday' American and weren't just a luxury for the upper class. This is also about the same time radios became common household products as well, so we are at least past 1920.modernmorphling wrote:I'd theorize that the timeline of Trio of Towns takes place from the late 1800s to the early 1900s. You can own a TV in the first Story of Seasons, which means we are also at least past the 1950's now. As Sakuno said, this game takes place some time after the first one so we are in at least the 1960's, and that's only if I'm giving the very bare minimum.
It's said that the MCs father travels a lot for work, so I would assume he flies though I suppose if you wanted to you could argue he just drives. However, given the clothing he and the rest of the MC's family wears, idk how in the world you would assume this takes place in the 1800's.
Also are you implying nobody acts for theater anymore? Only for TV and movies? Like???
I'd assume we're in at least semi-modern time, like no older than the 1980's. Rural areas don't always have the same technology as suburban or urban areas, but that doesn't mean they're stuck in time unless we're talking about like an Amish community, which I wouldn't really consider this to be

HM games have never really had a set time period tbh and trying to figure out the timeline is honestly.... super confusing. I would even agree that it could be the mid-to-late 20th century if it weren't for one thing:
the kitchens
like, there's not a single refrigerator in all 3 towns, the stoves all appear to be the olden kind that you light a fire under to heat up--they're not even gas stoves. It's bizarre.

Mithra and Lotus talk about how Lulukoko refuses to switch to electricity, so its safe to say that the time is more modern and the 3 towns are just so rural they dont have the hookup for our modern conveniences. Dont forget about the makers you build on your farm, they have wires and bulbs and do sophisticated things.
I think the lack of other electric things was an odd choice, as SoS had TVs and street lamps, its probably just to set a really rustic, rural feel.
I guess they left the tv out so Illuka and Inari could give you the weather and the traveling story teller could give you shows. Its a bit more interesting i guess?
