For those who'd like teenage children to be a option/return.

I know that some of the older games has teenage children, but I don't own those games. The only game I've played with teenage kids was ANB but that doesn't count since it's not permanent unless you have the candy.
I personally would like to see this at least a option in the future, that way if someone wants their kid to stay a kid, they don't have to do the extra requirements or something.

There's really no reason not to at least make it an option. Same with rival marriages; just let players toggle it on and off if they wish. If the child became a teenager or two rivals got married then obviously it's too late to turn it off, but in terms of preventing it from happening in the first place, I don't see why they won't give us options so the people who do want it can have it.

I would love for the children to age up, it would give the game a lot more longevity after the rush of getting married! It's always really weird to me that, after all the changes on your farm that it takes leading up to marriage, that then suddenly everything feels stagnant as your baby is a baby for years and years.
My only issue is that it's kind of awkward when nobody else ages along with them. Especially when the kids are teens and there are some marriage candidates that still look like they're on the "barely an adult" scale.
This worked a lot in DSC when a lot of the cast was much older but time really didn't "age" all that much with the exception for a few characters, I believe.
I think pre-teens could be cute. Or like, really young teens.

Maybe having the firstborn grow up to teen and the second child staying at "kid" would be a nice solution? Basically it would be making them both stop growing at the same time, but since one is already older they progress further.
I mean, that way you'd have a nice varied family without having to make the game too complex.

that i can think of right now, the only two games that had this were A(n)WL and DS/Cute, and DS/Cute only because it was based on the AWL games...
The reason it worked in AWL was because it was basically a center piece to that game. The game REVOLVED around rearing your child and shaping their personality after a certain point essentially, especially given that you had a choice of... getting married and having a kid, or getting a game over. That game explored the angstyness associated with being a teenager because having a family was kind of the POINT, and it was nice to see them grow out of it when they became adults...
ANB had a nice, if kind of weird approach to it. Or maybe like Getaris said, have one kid and one teen.
Basically, I think if the game allows for it it's a fun idea... But I don't know if I'd want EVERY game to have kids that age up to teens.

Having the teenage children option would mean that they would most likely have to make older versions of all characters too, since they can't possibly make child and parent look like siblings!
And I'm probably speaking more for myself here rather than the community - I don't think most players would like to see their avatar's spouse as a wrinkly old man/woman after a few in-game years. It kinda takes away some appeal in my opinion.

Honestly, I'm on the other side of the fence. Having the character and spouse get old and wrinkly implies that they are growing old together. For me that's very romantic. More romantic than the all the heart events and sappy dialogue we have now. Actions speak louder than words sort of thing. I'm weird like that.sharp wrote:Having the teenage children option would mean that they would most likely have to make older versions of all characters too, since they can't possibly make child and parent look like siblings!

I'd prefer that they grow beyond a teenager, to an adult who can get married and give you grandchildren. But I know that's a lot of work for the developers, even without taking the rest of the town into account.
I know it's all just wishful thinking on my part. There's only so much developers can do. It's a nice thought, but really impractical to implement.quigley wrote:I totally agree.Lenna36 wrote:Honestly, I'm on the other side of the fence.
