Inari thoughts

So while I've griped here and there, today has really pushed me to make a thread to try to express better my issues with Inari and the reasons Inari feels like a concession more than an actual candidate. Keep in mind some of these would be okay or even fun by themselves but as a part of the whole it makes them less appealing.
And if you're wondering what tipped me it was the internal « What The Eggplant » did they not learn from all the fan issues with Mistil as I just spent at least THREE days reading how MC apparently thinks they look like a kid like.. Can we not? Yup my character who is actively wooing them is comparing them to a child, nothing wrong with that at all yup exactly what my MC would do...
1. Inari has kinda high extra requirements ((fine alone, not with some of the other factors))
2. Inari has NO DATING
3. Not only does Inari have no dating, in base form you get no living with, no kids, not even any meals beyond birthday ((kids require DLC I feel like Marvelous should have had them in the core gameplay or at least give a single meal a day))
4. The whole MC compares them to a kid thing. Multiple times apparently ((like I think I saw three different dialogues with this, not even just repeat dialogue)). Like great, did the heart event where MC said they want to marry them, but yeah they totally are accusing them of seeming like a kid yep.
It just bothers me because I'm torn between the planning this whole thing for too long not to and the disappointment that has come time and time again. That and #4, there's enough potential for drama with Inari's looks without all that fuss. The fuss reads too similar to a kid trying to convince you they're an adult and I'm feeling bad and squicked about pursuing them now but after all this planning to do so I'm not sure what to do.
I'm not trying to say anything bad about anyone who is going after Inari or thinks they're a good candidate to be clear. This is just what's bothering me about this. Never has a character managed to so thoroughly teach me to not have expectations and not to make plans, and generally get disappointed as this character.

If you're really bothered by it all I would say forget your planning and just go for who actually intrigues you. What sort of "planning" are you referring to, anyway? Did you build up a big story for your MC & Inari? Personally after seeing the bachelors I had "planned" to go after Ford but as soon as I got the game I realized I didn't like him at all. Dropped him like a hot potato and never looked back.

Yeah it's really character based.
And it's not even I don't like Inari as a character, it's that they made them so hecking stripped. Well besides the putting words into my mouth about Inari which was unfortunate and I'm not sure what they were thinking.
I really hope they learn going forward not to do things like that honestly. I don't understand why they chose that when Inari opens all kinds of nasty accusations without that in the game as it is.
To clarify:
The character is based on an OC of husband's who is a fox spirit/demon.

I honestly have no interest in Inari as a marriage candidate and haven't since the announcement that they were a candidate. And it's because I see them like Dessie and Witchie - a kid.
Don't get me wrong, I adore them. They're super adorable and have an amazing character design. They're honestly my favorite guardian and I would love for them to appear again in future games. Or the adult version, Vixeni, since we've seen Harvest Goddess and Witch Princess.
But, to me, Inari looks and feels too much like a kid. And as a 30-year-old player I just can't see them in a romantic way. I sure would adopt them though.

Now, if in the next game they included the adult version Vixeni as a candidate then I might be interested.
I agree that it's weird. I mean, why not make Dessie and Witchie marriage candidates too, then? Why did it make sense to the developers that Dessie and Witchie shouldn't be candidates but Inari's acceptable? Maybe it was done to appeal to really young players? It's still super weird and still doesn't explain not including Dessie and Witchie. It really makes no sense.
But I won't judge anyone for going after Inari. Some people just like going for the special candidates.

Inari is never in my list from the disadvantage you mention "not living together" let alone having kid (how not living together can get them kid?!!!) anyway, I will still watch all her love event and reject her by the end of the last event. Pretty cruel but yea...lol

I get where you're coming from, don't get me wrong. I kinda feel like Inari looks a little older and that those two were painted more as kids to begin with is the key difference between them. But that's all highly subjective honestly.
They likely did it last minute because 'Fox Spirits are popular' or whatever. They definitely feel tacked on, as previously stated. One of the last heart events
They feel like they're straight from an anime, and like none of the people in those make sense.

You can with DLC but like... I feel like Marvelous should have had that in the core game. Now everyone else gets to pay for it because they didn't... Like I don't blame XSeed but were it in the original base game it have been part of the basic translation job too. Some of the DLC like whole characters make more sense as DLC, but again not XSeed's fault.

Toooo be fair, the DLC in Japan was free, so everyone there basically got to have a kid with Inari if they wanted to, eventually. It may well have been a situation like 'well, we can release the game like it is now and finish these things later if there's interest, or we can delay the game again and that always turns out well'.
Inari possibly being a last-second candidate might have something to do with it, too - it seems fair to me that a deity who doesn't live with you, and who's nongendered and probably nonsexual, too, wouldn't, uh, produce a kid the normal way, so some other method had to be taken than the standard scene, which takes more programming time and such to set up.
It's nice that they did actually go back and put that in for the folks who wanted to have a relationship with Inari but didn't want to give up the kid portion, really.

IDK, I mean all the other special candidates have given babies, even the Harvest Goddess, so I'm not sure how Inari would be different.
As far as being non-gendered, I keep hearing Inari isn't actually just that they aren't different between the two but honestly not sure anymore. I go with Non-Binary anyway and canon can get over that.
As far as I hear they drop off the baby? Not really sure anymore.
My issue, and I'm not good at communication so bare with me, is that Inari is stripped of a lot of dialogue and interactions too even WITH a kid. They feel rushed, they feel last minute, and special deity kid programing isn't new in these games. That's the not so biased more fair annoyance.
The more biased slightly salty, though I understand, is that I have to pay for a character that's rather stripped and while I was at least alright with that they decided to tack insult to injury and make this very creepy for no reason. Which was the last straw to make this honestly.
I mean, I'm defo not trying to say they're the devil incarnate or something, but man I just question having a candidate that's so stripped. I feel that the ability to at least have kids with deities has been a basic part of these games when you can marry them, and seeing they didn't add it makes me question why they are a candidate and how much the creators of the game actually wanted/were invested in them being one.
Like did they really want to do it? Was it something they felt fans wanted more than they themselves wanted it? I've seen a lot of content creators feeling as if they have to do something for the fans and it having similar results so I'm definitely curious. If they actually did want them, why they took this route when it's not the usual route with deity figure candidates.

For Inari's gender, an article in Famitsu confirmed awhile back that it changes depending on your character's gender. If the MC is male, Inari is female, and if the MC is female, then Inari is male.
