Well, let's keep in mind that by III we actually are talking about VI.

People often argue about which is better, VI or VII. They're like, the two best known games in the series.

Ooohhh okay that makes more sense lol. I love love LOVE VII lol. Haven't played 6 though so I might be bias.
sephiroth is my bae<3
Who's idea was it to make all the numbers different from their Japanese counterpart?

They did the same to Earth Bound but still doesn't make much sense to me ^^'

Oh well back then, they skipped games. Since they figured people would be confused if they followed the original numbering, they just... Kept their own numbering.

So IV became II, and VI became III. The real Final Fatasies II, III and V were not released outside of Japan until the PlayStation (II and V) and the DS (III).

When Square decided to move to Sony, they reverted to the original numbering. It did confuse many people when suddenly they jumped from III to VII hah.

For Earthbound, well, since the original NES game was never released in America, calling it Earthbound II would've been confusing as well.

XD so confusing. I get you though and it makes sense from a developers standpoint but like when/if they do bring over the games they skipped then the players get more confused imo.

I wish they'd bring over the other Earthbounds. I only recently like a month or two ago leaned that outer Earthbound is number 2(?) of Mother. I'd love to try the other ones but alas I don't think it's happening.
There was rumors back in 2016 that Mother 3 was coming to the US for the Wii but I have no idea if it has/is or if it's just rumors.
If it does come then will they call it a Earthbound II?
...I know that Earthbound (US version) is available for the WiiU :/

Well, yeah the original NES game was released on the WiiU as Earthboung Origins/beginnings or something like that a while ago, so you can definitely play that one.

Mother three will probably become Earthbound 2, if it is ever translated and released here.

Yeah, Mother was released in NA as Earthbound Beginnings not that long ago. Still just on the WiiU's virtual console at the moment, though, so unless you have one of those...

...Although, to be honest, Earthbound itself is superior in pretty much every way. Mother's an interesting enough game from the time, and it's okay to play through and see what they were trying to do and get some insight into some (very small) parts of Earthbound, but it's not actually that great in terms of playability. Lots of huge leaps in difficulty and not a lot of direction in some parts, so a lot of grinding is required. It's kind of a slog.

FFVI/III, on the other hand, I can wholeheartedly recommend to someone who didn't play it back in the day. It's one of my very favourite games.

I just checked and EBay is selling Mother 3 for the game boy advance. English version supposedly. It's only 8.99 + 2.99 SH; so I'm going to try it. Most of the reviews of the seller were very good so I'm crossing my fingers. The game cartridge actually says Mother 3.

Thanks for the tip that I can play the original on my WiiU. I'll have to give that a lookie<3 I'm going broke here >~< but so worth it.

We got derailed from the original topic but thank you som much for clearing things up for me. It's nice to talk to someone about Earthbound and know what I'm talking about. And I didn't know that Final Fantasy was out of order from the original.

Don't worry.

Yeah that's a repro cartridge with a fan translation, so it's kinda like paying for a Very Bad Thing™ hack. But well, I guess having it on a physical cartridge makes it feel a bit more official :shifty:

I always feel more comfortable with physical copies than downloading. I think that this is the only way I'd ever get to play the game  ...still feel a little guilty though.

@MageDragon: would it be safe to assume that I'll need a guide to play through Earthbound Begginings?

on topic: Anyone going to get the SNES classic day one?

^Depends on if I talk myself out of getting one. Hype wore off so I started thinking... That's usually a sign on how this will turn out for me.

I plan to preorder as soon as I can.

Last year I was lucky enough to get a NES mini at retail price (which to be honest, in Mexico it's almost double the US price anyway  )... So I hope to get one of these too.

@Kross lover/fan - Well, it's not like it's completely necessary! I mean, you can always just play it without and see how it goes (after all, that's what we all had to do back in the day XD). But don't feel bad about looking for hints about what to do next if you find it really hard going or are lost, yeah? There's lots of guides on GameFAQs, etc, for it.

I'm definitely going to try and grab one of the SNES Classics, day 1, if I can. I lucked out with the NES Classic on day 1, too, so here's hoping that second time's the charm. I might actually need to get two of the dang things if I can find 'em, but I imagine if I do wind up with one on the first day of release, it'll probably just be one to start off with.

Honestly I expected mostly a bunch of « Puppy Doodoo » games with 2-3 not « Puppy Doodoo » ones and was pleasantly surprised. ((By « Puppy Doodoo » I mean dime a dozen can't give away at a yard sale sort of games like nah man.))

The one game I would add from the Japanese version is Tetris Attack/Puzzle League/Panel de Pon. The western versions have an absolute lack of puzzle games, and that one is great.

I do understand they probably can't add it because they were dumb and named it tetris in the west  and changing the game to remove the name is probably a waste of resources.

Other than that, I'm happy with the list :) The four RPGs alone make it worth it for me, but we also get Zelda, Kirby, Mario, Yoshi, Metroid...
