Long story short, I had to buy a North American 3DS and ship it to New Zealand in order to play Trio of Towns any time soon (all up was over 500 NZD so about 360 USD). I'm mildly ashamed of myself lol

Question is, when the DLC comes out in NA, do you think I'll be able to download it from my locale? Does anyone have any similar experience with previous/other games? I have the DS itself set for N/a with some random state lol idk what your states are.

Those of us with JP 3DSes downloaded the DLC just fine from outside of Japan. You should also have access to the NA eShop too.

Only issue is that you may need to buy eshop cards online. At least it doesn't take my credit card (EU here). Also I recommend picking Alaska (prob others too), since you don't actually live there I see no reason to pay taxes.

I've read elsewhere that on the NA 3DS, the E-shop (and 3DS maybe?) should be set to Canada in order to use non American credit cards. If you can get hold of a US e-shop voucher instead, that would be fine.

The JP 3DS allows the use of international credit cards, so I've never had a problem with that one.

I am from Asia and I have my NA 3DS with me. No issue with region and using my local credit card to purchase any digital games or dlc. No issue at all. Only thing is location should be set to place that is tax-free lol I set mine in Oregon and I never need to pay extra for anything else~

All great advice guys! I'll set it to Alaska for taxes lol and if it doesn't take my CC (Which is acutally a mastercard debit? Should that matter? Naah) I'll go for Canada!

If you end up needing to set your location to Canada I'd suggest Alberta, Northwest Territories, Nunavut or Yukon as your province/territory for minimal taxes.
