Im quite sure there's no possible way to do this without any save file editor or powersaves. Powersaves is the better option if you don't want to modify your 3DS.

The 3ds is able to backup your saves for some games, but I'm not sure if that's a thing for ToT.


If you have a digital copy you could use a new SD card and redownload the game on that one so that you can have two save games. (And have one "copy" of the game on each SD card.) A 4gb SD card will probably be enough for the game.
