I balked for similar reasons at Joseph's route. I was really hoping it could be a good exploration of being LGBT and Christian but NOPE. Instead it's the most trope-y and stereotyped of all the routes, although the fact that regardless of how well you pursue him he stays with Mary is a twist. Not a great twist, but a twist.

I like Mary's character. In Damien's route it's revealed she hasn't actually slept with any of the guys she hits on, which is presented as somehow better?
I was not super sure what to make of that. Mary almost definitely gets the « Cow Poopoo » end of the stick regardless, jfc.

I also really dislike that Joseph's route is 'stay together for the kids' because in my exp growing up in LGBT communities... that never works?? Like, in the end you divorce, almost always! An unhappy marriage is an unhappy marriage. Imo it's better for the kids if you split and be happy (as long as you aren't asshats to your ex about custody of said kids).

Mary's still emotionally cheating, but imo I think the fact she doesn't go home with them just shows that she's just flirting around for the sake of wanting attention/trying to feel good about herself, or maybe trying to get back at Joseph someway. Like, she's obviously very much affected by his cheating (all the drinking) and I think just flirting aroudn at bars is just a twisted way she tries to make herself feel better. Which isn't "good" but imo it says to me Joseph is probably the one who cheated first and the two are struggling because Joseph STILL keeps on cheating or the two haven't recovered from that blunder to their trust.

I'm just disgusted at Joseph cause he thinks he can have his cake and eat it too. If it was just that he couldn't romantically satisfy Mary like he did in the beginning of their marriage but he still wants to stay together despite that it's not what it used to be, that'd be one thing. But he wants his hoe on the side and keep his « Cow Poopoo »-show of a marriage going as well. And that just bothers me. Especially since it's kind of obvious that his kids are already being affected by their parents, to a degree (the stuff they did in Craig's routenand just how creepy they seemed to be).

I have less problems with a very obviously LGBT/gay man wanting to stay in his troubled heterosexual marriage for religious/family reasons, whatever. But it's when he cheats/decides to have a hoe on the side, and still stick with the marriage that it bothers me. I'm not trying to understate how hard it can be for LGBT folks trying to fit in a hetero-normative society or feel obligated to follow certain hetero-normative kind of requirements, but you can't go around and cheat on your spouse too. It's « Snuggly Bunny » up. Need to make a decision and commit to it, not be a wishy washy cheating jerk.
Overall, I love the game but they seriously dropped the ball with Joseph.

That last CG made me SO ANGRY when it came to Joseph. Like.... seriously dude? You're going to be THAT kind of an « Mr.Gourmet's hat »?

Granted, I was already leery on Joseph as it was. Trying to slide into a turbulent marriage makes me cringe so hard, and I just...

I really don't play dating sims for their realism. That's... not even the point of dating sims, honestly. Both Mary and Joseph deserved way better than they got.
In Damien's route, has anyone figured out how to put that rotten gargoyle back together on the first date? I could not, for the LIFE of me, manage that.
