Price of DLC?

Does anyone know if Xseed ever told us how much each DLC pack would cost, or at least a price estimation? I was hoping to purchase a VC game, but I don't feel like spending a ton of my account's money if I happen to be 1-2 dollars short of the packs. While not the end of the world, the last thing I feel like doing is driving a couple of miles for an extra eShop card.

They initially considered $4 for each patch worth of content from the Japanese version (except patches 1 and 2 would be merged). However, since then they haven't set anything in stone or confirmed if they're still going with that price point and they said more recently that they haven't revealed how they'll handle it yet.

what the hell... they're actually charging NA players for the DLC? It was free to download in the Japanese version

This is from their blog.
So, will the DLC ever be released in North America? The truth is that we’re still discussing it. Given the size of the DLC, it would cost upwards of six figures to localize it (over half of which is programming and QA costs). For the amount of money and manpower we would need, we could almost release a full other title. The price of the base game in Japan is more than in North America, and they sell about twice as many games as we do here, factors which made it easier for them to release the DLC for free. We are really grateful to fans for their continuing support of the series under its new name, but releasing DLC of this size for free is beyond our means.

This places us squarely between a rock and a hard place. We either don’t localize the DLC at all, or we release it as paid DLC. Neither of these is ideal, but we have to be realistic as a smaller publisher.

The price point we’re looking at, after comparison with other paid DLC with similar content, is $3.99 each for three patches. (Patch 1 and 2 from the Japanese version, which contain less content than 3 and 4, would be combined.) Making for an even more bitter pill is that by charging for the DLC, we would be unable to include Cheburashka (and even offering him for free wouldn’t have guaranteed the license extended out to North America indefinitely). The above details aren’t set in stone, but it is the most likely plan if we do localize the DLC.

Wow that sucks big time, but i see what they are saying. I feel like maybe the game developer should be the one paying for this, they have already done it once for japanese players. They could have just included the dlc into the game as in game content and bundle the time and costs with the time and money they were already paying the publishers. Whatever. I will probably buy all 3.
Anyone know what each of the 3 dlc packs will consist of? Will one be events, one be clothes and one be marriage candidates? I want the RF4 clothes most of all!

The DLC contains a LOT. I have no idea which packet will contain what, but to summarize as much as I can remember of what came out in the four DLC updates in Japan...

The most major thing is the two new candidates, of course...Stephanie (MC/Emcee) and Woofio. Woofio will become a resident of Lulukoko and Stephanie will become a resident of Westown.

And of course, it will enable you to have a child with Inari, if you have them as a spouse. (Though it doesn't let Inari live with you or anything like that...you just get a magical baby that you pluck off a tree or which falls from the sky or something, lol. I can't remember the details of how the baby happens.)

A post-marriage visit-from-the-family event will take place where your spouse will have a chat with your dad.

A 'Christmas Eve' type of event will be added where you can go around at night with a (randomly chosen) opposite-gender candidate and leave gifts for the children.

A (n apparently reoccurring) 'tea party' event, where all the candidates of the same gender as your player character will come over to your house to have tea with you and discuss your spouse/significant other as well as the decor of the house itself. (I don't know if this event happens whether or not you have a S.O.)

Three 'cultural exchange' events where you and the candidates of two towns get together to share some of the featured towns' culture/customs, such as Ludus and the twins showing Ford/Wayne/Lisette (and you) how to hula.

More favourite outfits/pets added to all candidates (maybe all characters, not sure).

More lines of dialogue in several places, particularly from your spouse after marriage.

Lest/Frey costumes as well as 4 seasonal costume/outfits.

I think I'm leaving a bit out, too, but that's what I can remember, atm. EDIT: Here is a tumblr entry that describes much of what is in the DLC, at least in Japan:

I'm more interested in the outfit and the post marriage event more than the candidates. Haha

I may eventually marry Woofio even though I don't like his puns.

I have a slight interest in meeting Stephanie and Woofio as characters, but they're of no interest to me as candidates. I'm most interested in the events and the added dialogue (especially that the post-marriage dialogue will gain more variety). I think the cultural exchange events will be really fun and I'm also happy that everyone is going to have more favourite outfits to comment on. (It felt weird that you could dress up to look exactly like Yuzuki and yet Yuzuki himself would have NO COMMENT when you did. Now he will.) And I'm really glad Inari will be able to add a kid to the family, even though I've not been interested in having Inari for my MC.

I largely don't care about the added outfits, though I do love that red winter kimono, and the 'Sure Thing' outfit, too. (You can see all of the DLC clothing on Cherubae's site, btw, anyone who doesn't know...outfits #159 & 160 are on page 16 and #161 to 165 are on the last page, 17, if you haven't seen them yet and want to get a look.) Probably not going to ever wear the snowman or sheep costumes though, lol.

EDIT: Just fully realized now that the 'sheep one' is actually a dog one. Still looks like a sheep one to me, though.

Auuu, ok thanks guys! Damn, almost had a mini-heart attack when I thought that the DLC would cost half of the base game at $16 dollars, but then I realized that two packs are merged together, for around $12 in total. Still a bit high, but I know the content will be worth it (or at least I'm hoping it is!)

Well go figures, looks like I will be short of $1-2 for both 3oT DLC and the eShop game I wanted. Guess I could buy another eShop card, but the employees at my local GameStop are such douchebags. Maybe I can find some at Target... or just use my credit card, but I'm always nervous of security issues with that.

As far as I would guess, it might be one big DLC that contains all the localized content of the four JP DLCs. I'm not sure how they'd separate it out since the JP DLC also contained bug fixes. There will be a free bug-patch available as well, to fix things such as duplicate text and the Ludus Beverage Bash hiccup. The free bug-patch will also unlock the feature to buy the DLC package in the eShop.

Since it is a lot of new content for the game, I'd expect it to be $10 to $15.

Mmm....I'll probably skip buying the DLC then until I can truly immerse myself back in the game.

I'm gonna jump on it like a starving hyena, myself :) I want to start a third file but I'm holding myself back until the DLC is out. I love that this game has DLC, honestly. It's a big game to begin with but I've already combed it over pretty thoroughly and will enjoy having it refreshed with some new content.

Already bought a $20 Eshop card! Truthfully, I don't think it will break $15, but with the wait I will also assume that it might be all in one big set and not three smaller ones like XSeed originally was toying with. I don't replay HM games often, so I'm waiting for the DLC before starting and I am confident it will be worth the wait. One of the blogs mentioned the text needed to be translated amounts to the entire word count of some stand alone games!
