Monster Hunter Stories demo out now
Redone the demo, trying to be as complete as possible.
But how do you use the Rock Smash skill? I've got two monsters with the skill, both are level 10, but standing in front of those small and large rocks I get no option to hit 'A' and smash the rock. Is this just not unlocked until the full game comes out or am I doing something wrong?

I haven't tried around there. I've been trying in caves where I see those small and sometimes large rocks blocking passages. I'll go over there and try then.Anonymous Fish wrote:^are you anywhere near the mines where you talk to a felyne there is some rocks you can break there or are you talking about the blue/yellow nodes that appear on the map?
This time on the demo I'm level 10 and my party monsters are Blue Yian Kut-Ku (level 10), Velocidrome (level 12), Aptonoth (level 12), Arzuros (level 10) and (red) Yian Kut-Ku (level 10). I started collecting monsters (though I can't seem to find any new types) to use for gene splicing after I get the full game, and I noted something.
I had two extra red Yian Kut-Ku. One seemed normal enough, the other has 103 HP ... which is exactly what my level 10 Yian Kut-Ku has. I have no idea what gave this little guy that huge HP boost but I figured maybe I should save him and gene splice him some buffs and raise him up later. It could be I found him in the golden nest as I have found a couple of those. I'm going to keep hunting and leave off that 'forbidden' trip into the forest until the full game arrives.

^Since quotes don't work for me i'll answer your questions in a number point format.
1.The large rocks blocking passages in egg caves can't be broken. You can only use the rock breaking skill on the smaller rocks that are only slightly taller than you (like the ones at the mine) and as far as I know they don't give you anything when you break them they only block areas of the map.Later on in the story some rocks can only be broken by rock breaker+
2.There are only 5 monsters you can hatch in the demo: Velocidrome,Aptonoth,Arzuros,Yian Kut-Ku and Blue Yian Kut-Ku.Pay attention to the screen when the monster hatches if it has a yellow background it's going to be better than your regular monsters.Tapping the egg/pressing the A button will give your monsters random bonuses such as attack+1 or health+3.
Growth is how fast the monster can level up/gain experience Quick being the fastest Average middle and Slow being least.
I myself haven't found a gold nest yet and if you need more info for very early game watch 1-2 episodes of a YouTube play through.
I would recommend Game Taco if you want to do that.

I found the rocks at the mine and cracked them. So I assume the others in caves that are obviously blocking passages (you can see the passage in the map) will open up later.
Thanks for the tip on the background when hatching. I'll start collecting more and saving those for later use.
Gold nest are rare of course, but I have found two. Maybe I play too much.
I have watched Game Taco before (can't forget that name). Have to check out his MHS vids.

Also if you enter the nest and there is a monster guarding it if you don't want to fight it this will come in handy:
Fight the monster and press flee until it lets you run away when you return to the nest(as you would have done if you had fought the monster and won)the monster won't be there anymore and then you can pick up materials and an egg when you want instead of having to worry about a monster(this will not work for everything such as quests).

It's a shame we're not getting the Amiibos over here, but they're pretty cheap to import for those who want them. I'm tempted to just get Navirou so I can get the Felyne in my village in Animal Crossing.Anonymous Fish wrote:News just in

This makes me wish I had an Amiibo reader for my 3ds XL
Found another golden nest. When the egg hatched the background was yellow instead of blue. Also the monster, at level one had 109 HP, compared to another one of the same type I hatched that only had 52 HP. So it's a huge increase in HP. Didn't notice other stats increased though. As far as Genes go I noted that the monsters from golden nests have at least three genes and they are always flashing. I have no idea what it means when the genes are flashing, but I assume it's something good.
Honestly I've had so much fun replaying the demo I think I may just start over again when I get the game. Plus it will be nice to have the different weapons and such from the beginning ... though I must admit I yet to figure out how a flute is a weapon. Wish I had a bow instead.

The Hunting Horn is a support weapon that has a similar moveset to Hammer in the main series. It's heavy and hits hard, but by using several inputs, it plays a song and gives you (and your party) a status buff.
I think it'll work similar in this game where you can use it for buffs or just use it as an attack. I'm planning on using Sword and Shield, but I might switch over to Hunting Horn if it's got buffs I like.
