Anyone ever noticed this about AWL?
When you pick one of the three marriage candidates, it seems like the other two girls are pretty much setup to have an awful life. If you don't marry Celia, she seems to just be lonely and sick for the rest of the game on Vesta's farm(and based on that cutscene with Marlin, it seems like she even ends up a little bitter later on?). Muffy spends the rest of the game having awful experiences with romance and never finds her soulmate. Nami is so hurt that she leaves and later comes back, but seems to stay closed off and miserable for the remainder of the game. It's kind of depressing to think about and even makes me feel a bit guilty over the 2 that I don't marry when I play the game.

Totally! There aren't even any shops! The town is clearly dying and it's a very depressing game to me. Honestly I enjoy it least of ANY of the entire series because it is so depressing... ;~;Anonymous Fish wrote:'Seen it mentioned on Tvtropes and Tumblr. The game's pretty cynical sometimes. They're stuck in a shoddy life in a dead town. Katie and Hugh are gonna move away, and once all the adults die or move... Forget-me-not Valley is a goner.
I thought that was pretty much common knowledge that their lives are pretty « Puppy Doodoo » without you. But actually, in the file I played the most while married to Muffy, Celia and Nami were fine. I didn't get close to them at all before marriage, and then started actually talking to them. I befriended Nami since some places say she's one of the people that influences your kid to be an artist. She was fine. She seemed content to me. Just don't woo them all. Rivals still would've been nice though since aging is a thing in this game, so there's no pretending they'll find someone in the future.
Not implementing a full-fledged rival system in this game is one its biggest faults, in my opinion, and this is my favorite game in the series. Given the time progression, its the perfect candidate for a rival system, and the fact that it doesn't have one turns the game play from realistic to depressing

This is pretty much how I feel about this. I wish there could have been more buildings and more people but to be honest, the death of MC was sadder to me than anybody else's fate in the game.Robinstar wrote:I thought that was pretty much common knowledge that their lives are pretty « Puppy Doodoo » without you. I believe that's a pretty well known fact about the game, but I think Getaris is right about it only happening if you court all of them. I don't remember them acting that way in my file, and in that file I just went after Nami. Granted, I didn't interact with them that much, so maybe I missed it, or maybe I never got to the point where that stuff starts happening as I never got passed chapter three.

Oh wow, it just hit me how amazing rival marriages and children would have been in this game. Being able to see the rivals' relationships mature over the years would have been great, and having them have children around the same time as you would have been double great! They could have made the rivals have daughters and have your son eventually start a romance and marry one of them, with the person he ends up with depending on who you married (for example, Celia's son would go for Nami's daughter, while Nami's son would go for Muffy's daughter.) You would be able to watch your son's relationship with his future wife grow from the time they're toddlers! So many cute events could have come out of that! Oh man, big missed opportunity that was, IMOwhite66 wrote:Not implementing a full-fledged rival system in this game is one its biggest faults, in my opinion, and this is my favorite game in the series. It'd be interesting seeing Rock and Lumina's relationship if there was a proper rival system. I imagine nothing would actually happen between them until your baby is a kid, and maybe Lumina could help fix Rock's man child personality.
I never wanted a rival system in AWL. I would have preferred if the characters found romance elsewhere. Like, instead of Muffy having nothing but bad breakups she ends up with a guy from out-of-town and he moves in one year. Whatever happened to Celia's arranged marriage anyway?

Yeah, I did cry when my own character died...
But oh gosh YES rival children would be great! Usually rival children in other games are just kinda there and I get them all, but I don't care all that much. But since your son actually grows in this one, that would've been so great. Could've had a system where you befriend the parents of your son's love interests to push him towards the one you prefer.

I have no clue about Celia, but I'm pretty sure Nami takes off no matter what. Even if you ignore her and don't improve your hearts with her she'll still leave temporarily.Samansu wrote:Wait wait wait!!!
So as long as I DON'T woo the other two girls they will have decent, albeit forever alone, lives!? Is Celia still sickly or is she decently healthy? Does Nami take off still? So many questions now... >.>
Huh, that's weird. When my friend played AWL, she never befriended Nami, yet Nami never left the valley. In another playthrough, my friend gave Nami a few clay sculptures to the point in which she would turn to look at the MC, but she still stuck around after marriage. Maybe Nami only leaves the valley if you trigger all of her events, but give the blue feather to someone else? I just know that I've never seen her leave permanently myself, like she was always present in each chapter for my friend's game. Now I'm curious on what causes her to leave...Noeh wrote:I have no clue about Celia, but I'm pretty sure Nami takes off no matter what.
