I picked up AP a few months ago and have been playing on-and-off. The game is SO slow. My character runs so slow and the loading screens are a minor annoyance. It wouldn't be so annoying if the game didn't have such a slow start. You have to do so-and-so to progress the story. It took me like a week (?) to fix the bridge and now I have to do the bell quest.

Still, I think DS was worst at this. The game itself was fast paced however you couldn't even get married until you rescued the Harvest Goddess. It's so hard to rescue the Goddess! As a kid i never would have done that without a guide. You find like twenty or thirty sprites within the first year then get stuck. Plus, it's one of those games where you need to build a barn and coop so you can't just spam chickens for money asap. I've wanted to replay DS a few times but it's just too aggravatingly tedious and slow.

animal parade, though it's one of the things i like about it since it keeps the pace from getting too hectic, even after i have a lot to do each day

I've never gotten past the third chapter in A Wonderful Life. Not becasue I dislike the game... It's just... Such a narcoleptic grind.

In terms of gameplay, the fully 3D games in general seem to think you need to make every action and animation last for a whole 30 seconds. Even Natsume's 3D entries suffer from this. Magical Melody was the worst in this aspect.

A Wonderful Life. I've started over a few times and never got past chapter 2. I'd really like to get further because I love the idea of raising a kid and enjoyed the characters but it was so slow that I always lose interest.

AP is slow too but it does enough to keep me playing and want to go back occasionally.

AP and AWL are slow in terms of story progression and MM is slowest in gameplay, imo

For me it is AWL, but I have not played MM so maybe that one is slowest?

AWL is hard for me because everything has a depressing feel/gloom over it imo. It brings me down a bit (I have depression in real life) and can stress me out. >.> I am hoping for a better experience when I play it again as I replay all of the games, but I don't know.

I can agree that Animal Parade has a 'slow' feel, but I love that game. It is very relaxing and enjoyable, so I don't mind the 'slowness'. ^-^

The Lost Valley was slow for me. I'm pretty sure I only put 30 hours into the game. Just...time moved too fast, animations were slow, the valley was bland with no definite town, feeding animals by the hour was annoying, and I couldn't get into the request system enough for friendship increases with villagers. I think I got Toni up to 100%, but that's about it.

Even with a guide, HMDS was tough for me. I could manage to get 50-55 sprites by the end of Summer yr 1, but then I was screwed. Most were "ship 700 wool!" or "water 50,000 squares!" so... yeah. Plus, I struggled with raising love points too. Unlocking the purple sprites got Muffy up to a blue, so I just went with her. Then I needed to wait three months to trigger her yellow event, thanks to it being in the summer. That was some slow pacing for me. Don't forget the 5 records that come after your kid grows up; I basically got them, and stopped playing.

I enjoyed Magical Melody the most. It's just a shame that the animations are slower. Though compared to the newer games, I think MM did customization of building lots and furniture the best. Everything felt so rewarding when you earned enough money to buy new land, or a new piece of furniture for your house. And compared to DS, the notes were actually easier to earn, imo.

As a kid I replayed AWL several times but as an adult... ANWL is far easier to play. AWL just drags on. There's nothing to do once you know how to befriend everyone easily.

AP for me. AWL wasn't too bad for me because even though the days were long, they kind of balanced it out with only 10 days per season imo. Granted I wasn't a fan of how they kept adding years onto each chapter, but can't win them all.

AP was just too long for me and I had to drop it, which sucks because I really did enjoy the gameplay and everything else about it

Animal parade. I love it, but time passes a bit too slowly for me.

Both Animal Parade and DS are really slow to me. I don't mind it much in DS. But Animal Parade is almost painfully slow. I'll do my thing, go from location to location, and by the time I'm don't with one in-game day, somewhere around an hour has passed in real life. I can play from day to night in real life and not get too far. And to make it worse, I don't really get that much time on the Wii cause it's hooked up to the tv everyone else uses. I really love the game, but I also really love progress.

AWL never bothered me. It can get a bit long in further chapters, but since it's just 10-day seasons, it still kinda flies by. And then AnWL REALLY flies by. Too fast.

I'd say progression wise, it's definitely AWL. Gameplay wise, I'd say Animal Parade. As much as I love AWL, the added years on those chapters annoyed me as well.

Personally, Story of Seasons felt the slowest to me. I think it's just that the tutorial was sooo long. The game looks beautiful, and I really enjoyed playing it, but the tutorial was too much.
I agree with y'all about Magical Melody having animations that last too long though. It's probably my favourite Harvest Moon game, but it does have its faults.

The tutorial for Story of Seasons kinda killed my interest in the game in comparison to the other games I was thinking of playing at the time. Although the way you had to save your game ultimately finished it off. So, I dropped it and I guess I never really got back into it. It does seem to act like a normal game afterwards, though so I wouldn't really call it slow.

AP is certainly slow and it really sucked a lot of the enjoyment out of it for me. I still liked it, as it has practically everything I could want from a HM game; I just wish it wasn't so slow :(.

However, AP doesn't win the "slowest HM game ever" title for me, nope, that honor goes to AWL. Because as slow as AP was, at least there was stuff to kill time in it. AWL has some good things going for it, and I do like it, but it's really empty compared to other HMs. That in itself may not have been such a bad thing, if it wasn't coupled with long days that draw attention to it. Add in some slow animations, the constant stomach growling your character makes if you don't feed him, not being able to go to bed anytime you want (unless you don't mind waking up at a weird hour,) the fact that each chapter keeps on getting longer as you go, and you got a HM game that takes some real determination to get to the end of, IMO. I myself have never gotten passed chapter three.
