I plays like the demo, it's just a lot longer. These are for the 3DS game, in the WiiU some things are different.

The collectibles in each level unlock special things in the full game:
  • Flowers: each collected flower gives you a chance to unlock a limited time gold rush version of the poochy run minigame upon finishing the level. Collecting all the flowers in all the levels in each world unlocks new harder levels, one per world.
  • Yarn: collect all five yarns in a level to rescue a Yoshi, you can then play as that Yoshi.
  • Pattern Beads: there's 20 hidden pattern beads in every level, as you collect more and more, you unlock new premade patterns for the Yoshi maker.
There's also the Poochy Run minigame, you can access it any time from the main island, and you unlock a new level every time you beat a mini boss in the main story. In this minigame, poochy runs on its own, and you just press A to jump and down to duck. It has multiple missions and things to achieve. In gold rush mode, there's beads everywhere and it's really easy to get tons of them.

There's also the Yoshi maker. You can create up to 10 different Yoshis using the touch screen to design each part of the body separately, or you can just apply one single texture to everything.

All in all, this game is great. It can be a breeze to play, or a grueling test of patience, depending on what you want to do and how you do it.

Finding every little thing hidden in each level is HARD, but the game offers you mellow mode (infinite jumps), poochy pups (infinite ammo) and medals (perks you can pay with beads) to ease up things considerably, should you want to use them.
