Since there isn't an active thread for the new Pokemon games, I wanted to make one for discussion purposes!
The games come out in 2 1/2 weeks (November 17th!), so surely we'll be getting more and more information up to that point.

I'm excited to see Team Rocket appears in the new games, and for new clothing/customization options, and all that jazz.

Mixed feelings about this one - it's great to see Team Rocket make a return, for example, but some of the features I'm seeing in the trailers just come across as gimmicky. Like the photo club looks like something I'll fiddle with for five second and never touch again, haha.

Really didn't enjoy Lillie or Hau as much as everyone else seemed to, either. I really hope they develop their characters a bit more this time around.

I'm looking forward to the game! I'm choosing Popplio this time in Ultra Sun since I chose Rowlet in Sun.

Going for an all fairy team and I made sure to choose fairy types that can be up against any other Pokemon for type advantage. I'll have to hunt down TMs, but it should be fine.
I'm choosing
Primarina
Ribombee
Shiinotic
Mimikyuu
Carbink
Clefable

Gonna wait for reviews on this one to see if it’s actually all that different from SM. Just looks like a quick cash grab to me, and way too soon after the first games came out.

When the final evolutions were announced for the starter the pokemon I wanted to choose Litten because I was hoping it wouldn't look bad but it's final evolution looked horrible to me so I choose my second favorite Rowlet whose final evo looks amazing.

I really liked most of the changes in the last ones. Kind of gave the series a fresh breath.

This might be the last Pokemon game made for the 3DS, so that also kind of makes me want to get it, but I'm willing to just wait it out and see.

I'm considering this game as my first Pokemon game.

In theory, it's a game I should like. I don't like much violence or scary stuff, no shooters, no platformers...I've a small scope of interest. But I like cute things pretty well and I like good fantasy fun, so Pokemon should always have been an option, and it's SO popular that it's hard to resist trying to figure out what the appeal is.

I've found it pretty boring in what demos and so on that I've tried, though, and I'm extremely story-oriented...unless I'm dealing with a complicated sim with a million things to do, or a game that is so visually appealing that I'm just too dazzled to stop admiring it, I can't find any motivation to play any game without a story.

That's why I'm considering Ultra Sun (I'm not a nighttime person so it's gotta be Sun), since I've heard it has more story, or extra story, or something like that, and maybe it'll be enough to keep me interested long enough to figure out if Pokemon is actually fun or not, since 1 or 2 hours of demo playing might not be giving it a fair shot. (Then again, some games are really no more interesting than what they show in their demos...I just don't know if this is the case for Pokemon or not.)

From looking at pictures, I think my favourite type of Pokemon are probably the grass types. If that's a type, I might have it wrong. Plant types? Anyway, I'm definitely thinking of trying Ultra Sun. I want to figure out once and for all if I'm interested in Pokemon or not.

^ultra sun and ultra moon are direct sequels to sun and moon. if black 2 and white 2 are any indicator you probably won't be too lost if you play ultra sun first, but i just thought i should let you know in case you don't already

i'm gonna hopefully get ultra sun for christmas, otherwise it'll probably have to wait until i find a job since i have no monies. i'm planning on doing an all bug-type run of it because bug types are my favorite

Ah, I see, so it's not that it has MORE STORY than a regular Pokemon game (meaning that it is more plot-heavy than usual) it's just that it adds more to the story of Sun/Moon? So I may still find it to be very story-lite? Hmm...maybe it's not the game for me, then. It was the whole idea that it was more story-oriented that made me think I had a better-than-usual chance of liking it. Thanks :)

sun & moon are more story-oriented than most pokemon games. if you're interested in a story-focused pokemon game, though, i'd recommend black & white. in most other games, the main plot (such as it is) is finished between the last two gyms, but in black & white the story continues all the way through the pokemon league

USUM actually aren't direct sequels! They're an AU/alternate timeline from Sun & Moon, using the same trainer characters, so no knowledge of the first two should be needed at all. From the looks of the couple of trailers that I've seen, it seems like they're taking a pretty different direction from the first ones - a little bit darker, a little more serious. Likely more story, yes!

(But, of course, it's a Pokémon game, so how serious they'll end up being is up for debate, haha.)

I just finished up filling Moon's 'dex yesterday, so I'm ready to go on Ultra Sun. I think I'll end up taking Popplio as my starter, this time; I had Rowlet the first go around.

And, yeah, Kikki - grass is definitely one of the types! I almost always end up with at least one Grass-type on my teams. (See above re: Rowlet, hahah. They're the best roly poly owlys.)

@Kikki, This would probably be an easier one to get into game mechanics-wise. For battles, Sun and Moon showed which type move was stronger against the Pokemon you're facing (after it's registered). Types can be confusing for new players sometimes, so that little bit would help.

I like canines the best! As for favorite type, I'm not sure. I don't seem to favor one over the other except for grass. It's seems to be my weakness because I have yet to raise a good grass type.

I'm on the fence about these games. The deciding factor for me is going to be just how different the story is from Sun and Moon's. If the story does, in fact, turn out to be really different from Sun and Moon's, I may end up buying one of them. If not, then I'm probably going to pass on them.

In the event that I do buy one of them, I'm probably going to choose Rowlet as my starter. I went with Popplio last time.

To be honest, the most exposure I have to individual Pokemon is through Nintendo Badge Arcade. (Lol?) The ones I always choose to grab up with the crane because I just find them so cute almost all look like they are part plant, so I'm guessing I'm drawn to grass types. Otherwise I just like the ones with tiny faces and enormous ears, or are chubby with little fat limbs that are too short to be useful, sort of like Kirby. This guy is cute and doesn't look like part plant, though I've no idea what he/she/it is...

As you can see...not based on anything very concrete, lol, just the ones I think are adorable. (A bunch of them seem to be, but more in their weaker unevolved form...I'd probably be a terrible player since I wouldn't want to evolve anything that got uglier from it.)

Well, then I will probably wait until after Ultra Sun/Moon is out a while and there are some reviews on it to see if I can get an idea of how central the story is, or if it's inconsequential. I just get bored with any game where the story doesn't really matter. Plot and how attractive the game is to look at are my two biggest draws and are what ensure I don't give up on a game after just a few hours, so I've got to have one or the other, and Pokemon doesn't seem graphically gorgeous, though it's getting better. Thanks for the extra info, guys :) I hope it'll turn out to be a worthwhile addition to the series for you folks who are dedicated fans.

I will probably use Rowlet to start, maaaybe Popplio. Not Litten because I can't handle muscle-cat ( )
