Your taste in candidate characters

Modern HM games have TOO many good bachelorettes and bachelors (mostly bachelors). It was easier back when there were only four or five. Now I want to marry ten different characters but have no interest in replaying the game that many times.

General:

- ...I like religious bachelor/ettes. Not even in other media, just in HM. They have some forbidden fruit element, especially the nun or priest types like Carter (someone needs to make him a bachelor in a mod) and Alisa.
- Angst. Give me all the angst. I love characters with some deep emotional turmoil or sad past. Don't make it too 'edgy' but I like characters with sad overtones like 64!Karen, Eve, and Jin.
- Gardener or farmer bachelorettes are so cute. Ellen, Nina, Ann, Popuri (64 only), etc. I remember Celia was my first love interest in HM. It just seems like a natural match. They like plants and/or animals, my character is a farmer...

My specific favorite bachelors/bachelorettes per game:

- SNES: In all honesty, I llke them all near equally. I usually try to marry Nina or Eve though.
- 64: Karen and Popuri.
- BtN/FOMT: Ann.
- BTN:FG/MFOMT: Gray.
- StH: Gwen and Lyla
- AWL: Celia and Muffy.
- ANWL: Marlin.
- MM: Ann, Nina, Eve. Ray, Kurt, Dan, Blue. Jamie.
- DS: Leia and Witch Princess.
- IoH: Vaughn. Witch Princess and Chelsea.
- ToT/AP: Toby, Luke, Jin, Julius, Chase. Renee, Maya, Selena, Cadance, Luna (AP only), Kathy, Harvest Goddess
- GB: No one in that game is remotely appealing.
- ToTT: This game is also full of generic character designs and unappealing characters.
- ANB: Yuri, Felicity. Sanjay, Soseki
- SoS: Nadi. Elise, Iris,
- ToTT: Silluka, Komari, Kasumi. Yuzuki

I don't know if I have a specific type I'll always choose but nowadays I tend to gravitate to someone kind/sweet to the MC or one of those types that soften up once you get to know them better.

On the poll: I love it when I enjoy multiple characters and want to marry more than one because yay that means I like the cast a lot! However my favorite thing is when there's that one marriage candidate that clicks with you because it makes that choice the more special (plus no agonizing over who to pick ).

I'm a sucker for cute girls, though of course that's quite subjective and most of the bachelorettes fall into that category. Some angst, too, for some reason - like Eve and Nami. I also tend to like magical bachelorettes, like Witch Princess (the DS/IoH/ANB one) and Marina (HoLV's HG).

With the poll's question, I prefer when it's an easy choice. I don't really like to replay very often.

I always fall for the shy/standoffish/socially inept bachelors who don't really seem to understand or want romance until MC comes into their life. Cliff (MFOMT), Wizard (AP), and Ford (3OT) are my favorite husbands, hands down. Occasionally other personalities appeal to me - Woofio's quirky charms have been sweeping me off my feet the past few days - but if there's a guy that matches the aforementioned description, 99.9% of the time my decision is made.

When I'm playing as a guy I often find myself choosing the bachelorette that most reminds me of myself? That sounds super narcissistic, haha, but its fun to try to find something of yourself in the characters.

im honestly like the most stereotypical girl ever. I somehow always go for the most popular bachelor or the tough guy, super masculine bachelor. I don’t know why, but im so attracted to those kinds of guys. Like im going to be 200% honest here if Zack from FOMT shaved that horrible facial hair and was a eligible bachelor I’d be on that right away. The thing is though I’m super picky with my bachelorettes. There hasn’t been a bachelorette that I’ve wanted to make a male file for. All the ones that i would want to pursue ... aren’t eligible (looking @ u saffron my QUEEN). Basically any bachelor like Ludus is the kind of guy i like (Ludus is so special to me oh my « Harvest Goddess » im obsessed with him just like i was with Leon).

@Pachi...yeah, I'd say that's one of my patterns, too...I love the guys who seem super gentle, like Sanjay and Yuzuki and, to a lesser extent, Raeger. In my case I like the feeling of the ones who seem like wisps on the wind...it makes me want to take hold of them. And it's true! Trio is absolutely packed with really, really nice guys. Some are awkward or have other small issues, but each one of them is the type who'd run to your house at 2AM if they heard you were injured, even if you hadn't yet gotten that close to them. Imo, anyway. So far Yuzuki has been my favourite (though I had no complaint with Ludus, he just wasn't my 'type', I guess) but I'm still going to try Ford and Wayne as well, even though Wayne is probably the very opposite of my type since I don't seem able to get into extroverted characters and I dislike the cowboy-style. He's still a super nice guy, Trio style. And appearance is what I go for, too, if there are no personalities/circumstances strong enough to sweep me away, such as in Trio where everybody is very nice and no one (except Inari) has circumstances that seem more clearly unique than anybody else's.

I just noticed a poll has been added. For me, it's most fun when I like and want to marry everybody. It makes me more motivated to activate their events and get to know all of them better. If I liked just one bachelor, it would make me focus on just him and just kinda forget or don't pay attention to the rest. That makes me a little uncomfortable because it's like the MC moved towns just to flirt and get a boy haha;;;

That's about all that I find that does the initial draw in. If there are multiple marriage candidates that have at least one of these things, then I date all of them and then decide based on their personality in the story. This is one of the most fun aspects of the game for me, besides maxing quality/discovering all crops and items.

I always married bachelors I would want to be friends with. Because I'm a gay girl. So, I never married anyone I was attracted to. All of my husband's are the "buddy" type. Fritz from SoS, Hiro from ToTT, Gustaf from AnWL, etc. No "hot" guys. The kind of girls I like are kind of quiet and sweet. I really liked Alisa in ToTT, even though I couldn't marry her. I also like Elli from FoMT (I've only played a few hours on an emulator, though.)
