Games where I didn't get too conflicted about who to marry;

Well starting with RF there was:

RF1 - Mist, Rosetta, Lynette
RF2 - Mana, Cecilia, Rosalind
RF3 - Katina, Carmen, Raven
RF4 - Forte, Margaret

I replayed RF a lot more than I did any HM game it seems. Generally speaking I'm not fond of overly endowed girls or rich girls, but Rosalind was the exception as she didn't 'act' like your typical rich girl at all. In fact she may still be my favorite RF/HM spouse of all.

I don't know how it turned into lists; it started out discussing traits of candidates that routinely draw you to them. But I guess making lists of candidates you like is sort of discussing your taste. I can't make heads or tails of anyone's likes or dislikes in a candidate just from looking at the lists...but probably plenty of other people can.

Well I generally on my first play-through marry the first potential spouse I meet. I kind of think of them as the cannon spouse, even though the games technically don't have that.

The next spouse I'm a lot more picky and it may be easier to say what I don't like than what I do. I generally stay away from overly endowed females. I also avoid the spoiled and the snarky types, even if it's meant for them to be tsundere. I'm more attracted to the ones that can be independent and have self confidence (though may be hiding some insecurities).

I tend to go for whoever isn't the popular choice (which is usually the oldest candidate or the 'ugliest' one.).

ie: Won in MFoMT or Griffin in HMDSCute. While Won isn't the worst husband, he's really got nothing going for him romance wise (or looks, really) and while Griffin does have his fanbase, back when Cute first released, nobody would « I love You » about Skye (which resulted in me developing a hate for him and his archetype), so I went the complete opposite of the spectrum in that case.

It's more or less the same with the girls.

I have a thing for Beautiful Dudes who go Gaga over their own Beauty like Rock and Skye as well as Girls with Beautiful Long Hair like Karen, Popuri, Muffy and i have a thing for Good Bad Girls too like the Witch Princess in DS Cute... Especially when they are Magical... Really she is just awesome... I also like Regal Personalities too for both Boys and Girls too! Like the Harvest King in Animal Parade...!

But really now i will go for the most Beautiful one in my Eyes... As long as their Personality doesn't turn me off that is... Like Will from Sunshine Islands i found him Cute and wanted to marry him from the first moment i laid my Eyes on him back when the game came out in Japan but then... His Personality turned me off too much... So i started to go after Mark in my other File...!

In Tree of Tranquility i married Luke and Gill i was originally just going for Gill but i was having a Hard time finding his Diary so i went for Luke but then i went back to my other File and married Gill after finally finding his Diary i would have gone for Chase and Julius too but i didn't want to be in the way of Dakota and Angie's Birth...! I didn't marry Gil in Animal Parade for the same reason of not wanting to be in the way of Vivian's Birth... Rival Kids are Cool and all but i don't want to miss on the Kids if i marry one of their Parents it would be Cool if in the games with Rival Kids your Rival would marry someone else if you married the Candidate meant for them like Yue does in Rune Factory 2... That way you could marry any Candidate you want without missing any Kids...!

I think a list of my favorites would be most useful, too:

HM64: I usually go for Maria since I find her watering chore to be the most useful, but I have wooed or married everyone but Karen.
AWL: Nami or Muffy (I've married both of them).
HoLV: Alice is my favorite, so I married her, but I love them all.
SI: Elliot (married)
GrB: Antoinette, Daisy, Freya, and Dirk (I married the latter two)
ToTT: Hiro, Georgia, the Oracle, Dirk, and Alisa (I wooed Dirk pretty heavily but ended up dropping that file, but I did marry Alisa)
ANB: Sanjay, Amir, Iroha, Felicity, and the Witch Princess
SoS: Nadi and Elise (married)
3oT: Siluka, Inari, Hinata and Woofio (I married him)

For bachelors, I err towards either the seemingly humble candidates, or the energetic and youthful ones. Most of all, I like character development and a challenge, though, which this list reflects.

I'll make a list, too. Hopefully it'll help me figure out if I have a pattern.
Hmm... no real patterns there, I guess. >.> If I had to choose, I'd say either the joke candidates/the Allen-type... I love candidates that make me laugh, either with how completely absurd they are, or the things they say/way they tease the MC.

Female candidates it's easier, I almost always go for the tsundere if available, lol. I usually prefer the guys, though, so there aren't as many for this list...

I'm usually into the more down-to-earth female candidates. Elli from N64, Ann in BTN, etc. I just married Siluka in 3oT and she basically won out because she was laid back and sensible.

That said I also usually like the shy characters and will deviate for interesting/unique characters even if their personality might be more vitriolic (Michelle from ANB is my go-to example). I usually do not marry the 'special' candidates, Leia being the only exception to that rule.

I used to like tsunderes but am now just ehhhhhh on them. Any jealous characters I usually pass on as well.

For the bachelors... I usually like the quiet, stoic guys I guess?

I'm the kind of player who can't decide who to marry, so I end up flying solo. But tbh, as I've grown up over the years, I've cared less about marriage in the games, and I've become more focused on the actual farming aspects.

The only time I've ever played a game knowing exactly who I want to marry without having doubts was with Antoinette in GB. Idk why but I really liked her a lot. (Also, in Rune Factory 4, I love all the bachelorettes and would marry them all; but Clorica reigns supreme as my fav of the entire series so I guess she'd also count?)
