Any AP starting tips?

So after many years of owning Animal Parade and never really managing to get into it, I've gotten really into it. And I kind of just want to discuss the game with you guys!
At the moment, I think I'm either going for Chase or the Wizard. I've picked up from an old save file so I've just gotten to summer in year 1.
Any tips and tricks would be much appreciated! <3 I've already stored away a potato from Spring because I remember that being important. But aside from that, what are some things you wish you knew when you first started playing AP?
I know the whole 'rubbing' technique with a second wiimote is meant to speed up the process of gaining hearts etc, but I can't find my second wiimote and it made the game super slow and tedious for me anyway. Will it take absolutely forever to make friends without 'rubbing' or will my patience pay off in a decent amount of time?
Also if anyone else is playing AP atm, let me know how your file's going!

I haven’t played in a while but my mother was playing currently
I tend to always go for the wizard or the harvest king ^^’
She’s probably going for the harvest goddess.
I remember for the water bell you need a ducks egg so I tend to purchase a duck asap.
I try to remember ahead of time what ingredients I need for Thomas’s (or is it Theodore in this game?) animals to feed them to get them to return to the circus.
While my mother uses the ‘rubbing’ trick, I do not (unless I’m super bored)
With the rubbing it raises FP a little bit faster but I do just fine without it.
By Fall I can have almost everyone up to 4-6 hearts if I remember to gift them everyday. (Sometimes more if they really like the gift)
....I feel like playing again now lol.

You'll definitely want to grow a ton of those blue flowers in fall. (I forgot the name of it at the moment) They are worth a good bit of money and could help you get to the hero rank. Just make sure your soil is a hundred percent fertilized first. Also get butter if you can because you'll need that later.

buy as much lettuce as you can, as quickly as you can. not only do you need it for one of the bells, it grows in a set number of days so soil quality doesn't matter, and is worth a lot of money. i once managed to get farming hero in the first spring by growing a whole « Soft and Fluffy » of lettuce.
i usually spend all my money on day 1 getting 18 lettuce seeds and 9 grass seeds. those, plus the 9 turnips and 9 cabbages you'll get as gifts from hamilton and taylor, are great to get you started
buy a duckling asap
if you haven't done so already, you can get a free cow from cain the first time you visit the barn on horn ranch. you don't have to do it on the first day, but you can't do it after you buy another animal
don't forget to meet toby down by the waterwheel
get a pot as soon as you can because pretty much everyone likes herb tea (including the two dudes you've got your eye on)

Thank you!!
I've already rung three of the bells (yellow, red, and blue I believe), so I've got the duck and the duck has served its purpose lol.

That's so encouraging to hear that the rubbing trick isn't such a big deal! I've been giving out gifts to quite a few people daily so hopefully I'm on the right track. Do you know if talking to people raises their friendship at all?

Ooo thank you I'll keep that in mind for Fall! I've already got a butter maker and a cow~

I didn't grow much lettuce in Spring, but I'll remember to grow lots of lettuce next year! And oooo nice I always try to have a plentiful supply of herb tea because I noticed they made good gifts. I've mainly been giving them to Jin and Anissa though.
I haven't been giving Wizard any gifts yet because he hasn't saved the Witch yet, but I'm close! Just need the good cornmeal which is fine because I'm growing lots of corn.

Since I'm at college and don't have my Wii, I haven't played in a while. However, I do remember in my file I married Gill after many irl years and just had a second kid (girl!, first was a boy :> )
I believe talking raises friendship, although far slower than gifts
Additionally, if you want rival couples to get together, befriend the character whose gender matches yours (If you want Toby and Renee together, befriend Renee if you are a girl).
Be sure to give your animals a lot of attention so they'll produce shining quality products more often too!

I started a new game recently, to see how fast I could complete the main story
If you are going for the Wizard, the best gift for him is the fugue mushroom, way better than anything else, and rather easy to get.
The rubbing thing is not really necessary, using it gives 7 points. To compare, talking is 5 points, liked gifts around 5 and loved around 10. Each heart is 100 points.
Also, besides the potato you need to save a tomato in Summer and a carrot in Fall.

Peachy;
Congrats on your second kid even though it was a while ago! I bet Gill's kids look cute. I hope you have the opportunity to play AP again soon~ And that's good to know that talking raises friendship even if only by a little.
LaI;
Ooo how's your file going?
I've been saving up fugue mushrooms in preparation for wooing the wizard!

Went quite well, rang the purple bell on Spring 24th and summoned the Harvest King Summer 1st

Now working on getting everyone married, and marrying Wizard myself 8

In my first file, I'm married to the Harvest King and have everything I need for a NewGame+. Just gotta wait for my daughter, Pomona, to grow up. After that, the plan is to marry the Harvest King all over again, have the same exact daughter, followed by a son, and of course hook everyone else up. Thing is, I've already gotten some characters together in this playthrough, but I can't get Renee and Toby's last event to trigger. I hope it works next time.
In my second file, I'm going after the Wizard, but I haven't been playing that one much.
In the third... Well, I intend to go after Julius, but I want to restart since I let my ex name my stuff in that file and it bugs me.
I only used the rubbing thing once and found it inappropriately funny to use on people. It's really not necessary at all. Just amusing.
You'll want to make sure to have a carrot on you during Winter.

It's not really hard or impressive, just requires a bit of planning.
The hero rank part is easy, plant lettuces everywhere

I used the rainy days to cut the trees for more space, but in the end wasn't necessary, ended up replanting trees in better positions 1 week before end of Spring. Quite important here to upgrade the watering can to at least copper, otherwise you just die watering, and ring the red bell fast for access to the hot spring.
Also, buy a duckling and the pot as soon as you can. Good corn you can buy from Marimba farm when you've shipped 80.000 worth of crops.
The other important thing is pick 10-13 people to gift and start very soon, at least for the ones you only have liked gifts for. If loved you have a bigger margin. And, if you are aiming for Summer 1st, you do need the rubbing thing for this, otherwise you won't get 3 hearts in time. But even without it is perfectly possible to get the 10 wishes by 1st or 2nd week of Summer, so still good
The gifts I used (kept writing everything down so I didn't forget

)
Liked
Green Herb - Bo, also Phoebe but I could never find her.
Purple Herb - Julius
Berry - Kathy, Maya, Colleen (just pick 1 or 2, not enough berries at the beginning for everyone)
Sakura or Berry - Renee
Sakura or Goby - Toby
Mushroom - Alan and all sprites, but only unlocked Alan soon enough.
Loved
Herb Tea - Anissa, Candace, Perry
Sea Urchin - Hayden, Ozzie, Paolo
Hope all this helps if anyone decides to try a fast run
EDIT One tip I just remembered, that's a huge time saver. Shake the wiimote when charging a tool, goes a lot faster.

Wow I haven't even met the Harvest King yet. *_* I bet his kids look kind of amazing.

Wow thank you!! I'll keep your gift list in mind when I'm doing my rounds~
Omg and the shake the wiimote trick!! THANK YOU I had no idea about that!
