Why does no Sims fan talk about Sims 1? Whenever people are comparing Sims games it's always 2 through 4, but never 1? I'm just curious.

I've always wondered this too. Many sim fans, especially on tumblr, seem to intentionally forget that there was a debut game for the series. They only view the Sims 2,3, and 4 as valid games, which I find completely disrespectful. The Sims 1 was the landmark of the whole series, and yet?? you dont even recognize it as a valid game??? There is SO much you can do with the Sims 1, and quite frankly, it's my favorite out of all of them, with 2 very close behind.

i've never actually played Sims 1, i've only played 3 and 4.
it sounds really great though, and i'd love to give it a try. is it easy to run on Windows 10?

It probably depends on where people started with the game. Sim1 was a good start, and they'd only improved teh franchise graphics since. Most people start with the later generations at this point, given that once a new version comes out, the old one stops being sold.

I think most people comparing Sims games these days have never played The Sims. Unless if you find a downloadable version, it's almost impossible to run the game on a current gen. computer. Despite having extremely fond memories of The Sims, it is pretty bare bones compared to what you can do in the game now. I have to often remind myself that a lot of the items I loved the most came from the expansion Livin' Large. Also most of what I loved to do revolved around cheat codes and creative deaths or trying to throw an epic enough party for celebrities (like Drew Carey) to show up. The mechanic I miss the most is being able to run multiple households at once. I've never played Sims 4, so maybe they brought that back but Sims 3 kinda disappointed me in that regard.

I suspect it's an age thing. When I talk to older fans of the series, they'll include TS1 in their comparisons because that would be the game that they started with; I think a lot of fans started with TS2. With games like Harvest Moon people can often go back and play the games in the series they missed, but I think it's harder with Sims. Partly because of all the expansion packs and partly because of backwards compatibility. I've thought about trying out TS1 but I suspect it wouldn't run on my computer.

TS1 was one of the most popular PC games ever. It's just hard to talk about nowadays now that the sequels have improved upon it so much.

I'm disappointed that EA hasn't released compilation releases since TS1. It sucks having to individually buy eveey game expansion.

I guess it's because the game is kinda hard to play on modern computers. Older players can't get their fix, newer ones can't even experience it.

I also loved the original Sims! But it doesn't have as many features as Sims 2, and Sims 2 introduced the whole life cycle of the sim from baby-elder (as well as a lot of other features), so I usually reference Sims 2 more than Sims 1 in discussions about the series.

I played Sims 1 when I was like 10-13 years old and my play style was basically: murder a bunch of children in a burning building and then let their ghosts haunt the next sim.

Sims 2 was the first game I actually felt invested in the Sims' lives and actively worked to complete their aspirations instead of just mass murdering them.
