What type of marriage candidate do you not like at all?

There is a topic ongoing about prefered types, but what about the ones you cuold never marry?

personally, I could never marry a girl/guy that's extremely young (Luna comes to mind) I would feel uncomfortable doing things with them.

What about you?

-the ones who start off extremely rude to the point of being outright insulting (i'm specifically thinking of vaughn but i'm sure there are other examples). i understand the appeal of tsundere and kuudere characters, but sometimes it gets taken too far. if a character is going to call me annoying, i'm not going to want to talk to that character
-the ojisan characters (like soseki). i like their designs, but the fact that they keep going on and on about their age is annoying. it's like, shut up dude. it wasn't weird until you made it weird
-mary and sabrina. i don't mind that they're shy, and i don't dislike their designs, but for whatever reason those two characters have always bugged me and i have never been able to warm up to them like i have to others

Do you find Mary the least interesting in the set of cast of her game? And I wonder if you do not really like Sabrina because she is "related" to Vaughn

^not... really? ann's kind of the least interesting in terms of characterization, but i still like her. i don't dislike vaughn enough to hate sabrina just because she's associated with him. if anything, i don't like sabrina because she's like mary, and i don't like mary because ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Well I already mentioned what I don't like before, so here's pretty much a copy of that with a few additions.

What I DON'T like:
-Super manly men with absolutely no feminine qualities, like Owen, Calvin, Griffin, Carter, and Bob.
-The cowboy/girl look. There's exceptions though.
-Facial hair. One exception.
-Michelle. Yes, she gets her own thing. I know I like pink hair and jerks, but she takes both of those things way too far. There's a limit, okay? Iluka pushes it too with the jerk part.
-Baby talk. Might as well give Maya her own thing. I can't handle her personality nor her looks.
-Abuse. The 64 version of Ann is awful to me because she gives Cliff a black eye. So I hold a grudge over all 2nd Ann's even though the Mineral Town ones are different.
-Well it's not particularly great when I'm able to forget that a character even exists.
-I totally understand Kam's thing about not liking Mary and Sabrina, and also am not sure why. They seem like characters I should like, but I just don't. I don't really have any sorts of feelings towards Harris or Gray, so it can't have anything to do with the guys for Mary. I like Vaughn, but I don't get jealous of rival candidates since 1) I control the game, and 2) I sometimes ship rivals with my favorites. *shrugs* I would still marry Mary though, just to fill a space because Popuri is the only girl I care for in the games they're in besides DS. Still haven't made a decision for extras though.
-Similarly to above, I also don't care for Candace or Gina. Nor Dia.
-I have liked some that fit into this category, and people do think of them as jerks, but I'm not too big on tsunderes. When I say I like jerks, I mean I like someone like Allen, and not like Neil. Tsunderes get flustered, while Allen is the one who flusters you.

~I hate loli and shota types. (Luna, Fritz, Mistel, Inari, etc)) I am 28 irl and it just feels... creepy... >.>
~I like older characters, but I hate ones who are fixated on their age or the age difference! Klaus was my fav bachelor in SoS, but he won't SHUT UP about the age difference. It's annoying.
~I don't like the jock characters like Luke. Nothing personal, but I have never been attracted to it.
~Overly rude characters. Nadi, Neil, Iluka, Luna, Selena, Allen, etc. I'm not sticking around for abuse in the beginning to 'hope' you get decently nice.
~Overly flirty characters like Wayne, Raeger, Will, Allen to some extent, etc. I am distrustful of that kind of flirting. Just how I feel.
~Really manly guys like Calvin, Owen, and Bob
~Really girly/high maintenance girls like Popuri, Muffy, Lanna, Daisy, Luna, Elise, Lillie, etc.

I personally LOVE Mary/Maria, Sabrina, Candace, and Dia. I relate to them a lot since I was a shy book nerd when I was younger.

And yeah HM64 Ann is problematic. I tend to send Cliff away and let her stay forever alone. I don't like the domestic violence. I also hate the alcoholism in Karen's dad, so I try to fix them as quick as I can.

The overly peppy ones since they more often than not just end up being annoying.

Hyper characters, characters who have giant egos, and characters that wear glasses (not because of the glasses, but the archetypes for them always seem to fall into meek and milquetoast, arrogant, or super-serious personalities, and I don’t like any of those types). I mean I’ll still befriend these characters and can sometimes enjoy them for what they are but I don’t choose to marry them

There are also a bunch of characters I don’t like who are judged on an individual basis, like if they have a really ugly design, poorly written events or say a lot of things that irritate me

Oh well... Let's summarize:

-most weird hair colors.
-overly energetic, hyper and/or childish personalities.
-the overly shy quiet girls. Not that I disliked them, I just don't care about them at all.
-feminine men. Desing-wise.
-characters that look like they could be your clingy little brother/sister.

- The kiddie looking characters unnerve me. Luna just looked short and young (plus isn't she only 16?), but guys like Mistel and Pierre are just pushing it. I've outgrown the whole appeal of those characters. Now they're just creepy to me.
- Characters under 18. It's rare for ages to be referenced, but a few bachelor/ettes are teens. Even if they're eighteen or nineteen, it's still not my thing. 'Too young and immature for me. I'd rather marry characters in their late 20s or 30s.
- Characters that are obvious clones of each other. Characters like Ellen->Elli and Nina->Popuri get passes for being related, but most other examples are too blatant. I'm looking at you, Denny and Sabrina.
- Shy characters. A few like Cadance are cute, but most just seen too much like Mary. They're easy to ignore. It's weird, since I like SNES Maria but dislike 64 Maria/Mary. I like shy characters in other media, but HM makes them boring and waifu baity.

Both have been mentioned before, but I don't like overly energetic/childish characters and older characters that complain about their age too much. (older characters are 100% fine if they don't bring their age up too often)

Personality-wise I don't like types that are overly serious or energetic/immature. The former because I usually don't grow to like them enough to marry them and the latter tends to annoy me. Special candidates, especially ones that don't live with you, I tend not to care for (as marriage candidates) because I don't want to jump through hoops to marry them.

That being said, it always depends on the game/character since sometimes I'll dislike someone I thought I'd like or marry someone I didn't plan on.

I'm willing to give most characters a shot, but I do not tend to be a fan of extremely young-looking (or sounding) characters, and am also not super enthused about really possessive types. I had, like, negative interest in Mistel from SoS, even though I loved the rest of the cast.

...Which is kind of excessively odd, when you consider that Hinata is my fave in Trio. He's definitely got some cling to him, along with being one of the younger-seeming bachelors in the crop. (I mean, some people read him as barely being an adult, but he's always pinged me as just being an enthusiastic twenty-something, so.) I suppose it must be that his other traits more than make up for the negative ones - and it feels like the presentation of his possessiveness is just different enough that it doesn't raise the same feeling of 'creepy' like Mistel did for me.

I'm also one who doesn't like the overly young ones or the older ones who go on and on about their age.
Like Klaus. He's probably only what, 30-35? yet sometimes you think he's about to be shipped off to an old folks home with the way he talks about himself. As someone approaching that age myself, I also don't like feeling like I should be put out to pasture, either lol

Pretty much every bachelor from Harvest Moon DS Cute. Now I know a lot of people are tired of endless pretty boys, and to an extent, so am I.

BUT THEY WERE TOO FAR THE OTHER WAY OK

Image

I mean come on

Also, if one of their heart/flower events makes the female MC out to be the really clingy/jealous type, I don't really like that either. Sad thing is it happens pretty often (because stereotypes). There was that Klaus event in SoS1 where you run off all upset and nearly get run over just because he was talking to Iris. And also in SoS1, didn't your character also get super jealous about Raegar for not paying enough attention to her while he was working and being nice to some women in his restaurant? Like hellllooo. He's WORKING. I wouldn't turn up to my SO's work and then pout and throw a strop because he's not showering me with attention.
It depends on how bad/how often that sort of thing happens but that can also turn me off, and it's not because of the bachelor themselves but because of how it ends up portraying your character.

And like a lot of other people, the overly jerky ones. I love Allen, he's not so much a jerk imo as just sassy and some of the things he says reminds me of how my SO and I talk to each other sometimes, it's all in fun.
Neil, ehhh, he's a bit of a jerk but he warms up pretty quick and basically stops being a jerk to you entirely once you're together and is actually pretty sweet. Not like, say, Iluka who is still horrible to you even if you're married.

But no-one is as bad as Michelle. She is just an absolute cow. Manipulates you, seems proud of manipulating you, only wants diamonds. Nope.

YES, this is true! And this is probably because of the decisions they made while making A Wonderful Life - three obvious girl candidates, but there's nobody who screams obvious guy candidate except for village-idiot Rock and grumpy-gus Marlin. And when porting the world to DS, Flora and an aged-up Lumina were pretty natural choices for the guy version to include as candidates, but who remains for expanding the choices amongst the dudes except for a bunch of old/scruffy/scary/super-masculine guys? (Not that there is anything wrong with those types, in isolation, but it seems like there was just such an abundance of them in the villagers for that game!)

Like, sure, points for including some more unusual types of characters amongst all those dudes, but...

...At least they didn't give us Murrey, I guess.
