Kikki wrote:Thanks Bluie. Hmm, I hadn't realized it worked that way; I thought any ending was an *ending*...but you can get all or most of the character endings in one play-through and the game only ends when you get an ending specific to Lydie/Suelle themselves? I assume to get each main ending you have to replay from the start? Or is there a point in the story where you should save and just go from there if you want to unlock all endings?
All the character endings are optional, but not missable. Every party member (expect the 2 DLC ones) have a string of events that you'll unlock as the story progresses. You can trigger the events by visiting specifc places (marked with a '!'), making items in your Atelier(making time pass), or making specifc key items for their route.

The Twin's endings are dictated by numerous requirements. You'll get the normal ending if none of specifc requirements are met for the others. As long as you have a save before your ending, you can reload and take all the time you want working towards the others. If you have the requirements beyond the normal ending, you will get to choose from a menu which one to view instead of being locked into a specifc one.

The older Ateliers 'lock' you into endings depending on completion rate and friendship levels, which can get tricky to manage with the time limit. However, each playthrough gets quicker and easier as you carry over all your money, friendship, and levels. The newer Ateliers instead let you go at your own pace and hardly let you carry over anything, so one perfect playthrough is encouraged rather than many.

Well! That was actually pretty fun. :) Did a first playthrough of The Doll Shop. Games with very little gameplay are typically a hard sell for me, but I figured hey - try it, comment, support the devs. And it's quite fun! Three regular endings to get too. About 2 hours for a full playthrough - for a free game that's kind of excellent.

It kind of hearkened back a bit to the olden days of point and click adventuring. <3 I'd love to see more games with watercolor assets. The animations were a LITTLE stiff, but I can't complain - free game. I'm curious enough that I might go back for another ending later!

All right, I'm crossing off Skyward Sword, Tides of Destiny, and Fishing Resort from my backlog. I'm not having fun with any of them. I'll probably go back to Skyward and Destiny at some point, maybe (more so Tides of Destiny over Skyward), but just not now. I'm gonna trade in Fishing Resort if I can at least.

I did beat New Super Mario Bros. Wii last night and tried out ModNation Racers Road Trip on my Vita. It's my last physical Vita game and the lag is just too much. Oh dear, the lag! Crossing that off my list.

Now I just have PS3, Xbox 360, Xbox One, GameCube, GameBoy Advance, and DS physical games left! I'm almost done with the physicals! 4 PS3, 4 Xbox 360, 1 Xbox One, 6 GameCube, 1 GameBoy Advance, and 7 DS games.

I think I'm going to go through the first Rune Factory to make sure that Tides of Destiny was a fluke to me.

So, I'm starting November off with 6 of my consoles (Switch, Wii, Wii U, 3DS, PS4, and Vita) completely done with physical games...until November 16th when Pokemon comes out, but that's beside the point, lol.

I sadly haven't had any progress in any of my games and here I am, thinking of buying SMT IV and/or SMT IV: Apocalypse because they're on sale lol

To anyone who has played the games, how is it? Do I need to play SMT IV to appreciate Apocalypse, or can I just play Apocalypse without playing IV? I initially thought of buying just one game but if the experience is miles better playing the two, I don't mind getting both.

I scratched up enough cash to get Drum n' Fun, but idk if it's backlog worthy. It's something i'll play between game releases and not until I 'beat' it. I've unlocked all the characters and i'm slowly getting gold crowns on all the beginner level songs. No rush, enjoying it, but RIP my thumbs. They're getting a work out and worn down from doing the drum rolls. Ow. I really wish we had gotten the drum controller over here, because I would have totes used it.

Only other game i'm working on is Yomawari, and i'm not sure when I'm going to commit to it!

12 days til Pokemon! :D

So...I finished BotW over a year ago. All 120 shrines done, almost all armors upgraded to max, even the guardian armor...game really wrapped up anyway. Except...I never did bother to fight the final battle.

My reasons are that I really dislike the feeling I have in games where you complete it, and then it sets you back to right before the final battle with absolutely nothing changed, even though you've already finished everything. It just feels so empty and unsatisfying...I didn't really want to subject myself to that feeling, knowing it's how I alway react. But if I told anyone, they insisted that I really should finish the final battle.

So today I just booted up my original, super-charged file, and went and finished Ganon off. And it feels as unsatisfying as I'd thought, lol. Why do I listen to people against my own judgement? It's silly when I already know better. The only difference now is that if it comes up, I don't have to say 'oh, well, I decided not to actually fight the very final battle, but...' Now I can say I did that part. But it kind of makes me feel dampened. I can't quite explain, but NOT finishing the final battle lets me continue to feel more like...I'm not sure. But finishing it ruins that, anyway. Everything to do was already done and I have awesome armor and weapons and potions and foods, so it's not like there was anything special about being able to finish Ganon off at that point. :/

Oh well. Now just gotta wait five years for the next Zelda, or something :) Meanwhile, added some word puzzles to the Switch along with Subara City, but they're not backlog games...they're 'fill in an idle 10 minutes' aimless games.

There are so many ways to cheese the Ganon fight in BotW, and you were already OP af. I'm more the type of 'do all the storyline first, then go and do all the quests' person when it comes to LoZ games. I remember struggling with Ganon my first time because I had not done much else besides the Divine Beasts and enough shrines for a good chunk of hearts.

I'd say the only way the Ganon fight in BotW is challenging/rewarding is if you skip all the Divine Beasts (thus having a boss rush of all four Scourges, then Ganon) or attempt him without upgrades. Even then, still pretty easy to cheese. Here's hoping the next LoZ will not only build off of BotW, but make the bosses less easy to overpower and cheese.

Yeah, that fully upgraded guardian armor...fighting with that on...I mean, I was killing silver lynels in under two minutes :o And I'm not particularly good at combat, so believe me, it was the armor. Maxed guardian armor + offence-up food effect + a good ancient weapon and the HP is sliced off those lynels (and every other enemy) in such huge chunks, hundreds of HP per whack...it's a joke.

Not that I mind...I like making Link really overpowered, or at least having the option. :)

I do still have a few quests I could do, it's just that somehow having done the final battle, it leaves the game just feeling flat. It feels phony, playing after the final battle. I can't quite find the words to explain why it leaves me not wanting to play any more, beyond that. It just feels unnatural. It's why I didn't want to finish it anyway, but anyone who heard thought it was really weird to do everything *except* the final battle, lol, so as usual I figured I was just being weird and finished it off after all. It's not a big deal, just...it was more fun to keep playing before I did that.

I'd love if the next LoZ was based on BotW, but gave back a few of the older conventions, as well. A slightly deeper (or at least less disconnected-feeling) story and a few proper dungeons. The shrines were fine, and the divine beasts were a closer to actual dungeons...but it was so dull how they all looked the same inside. All-in-all an awesome game, even if I didn't really understand what the 'true' ending was supposed to indicate. It didn't really feel like it added anything beyond the 'normal' ending, to me, though it was mildly cute/nice.

I've seen speed-runners do the game from Plateau to killing Ganon in under an hour. That, now, would certainly be a challenge. Only 3 (or 4?) hearts, no good weapons, no divine beasts done ... I certainly couldn't have done it.

I like both games. While the two games have different stories, Apocalypse does follow a specific ending in IV and it's better to play them both imo.

I don't think you have anything to worry about Kikki - there's no doubt in my mind the next LoZ game will be based on BotW. Honestly I think Zelda as we (or at least I) know it is dead. The 2D/top down games especially are dead AND buried...which makes ME sad but I think I'm in the minority on that, going by sales.

It's sort of boggled my brain how many people I've seen STILL playing BotW. I enjoyed it, definitely - I spent more than 60 hours in the game I must have - but I haven't touched it in a year and a half. We're sort of seeing a Stardew Valley effect with BotW...people who haven't touched a game in the series in a decade are picking it back up, people who would never have touched a Zelda game are picking it up... (The most left field example of this is the head of a tech YT channel I follow having put 130 hours in...after having just gotten a Switch THIS YEAR.)

So yeah, without a doubt BotW IS the new formula. As much as I'd like to see a more cohesive story come back the more important thing to me is puzzles. I enjoyed SOME of the shrines but by and large they were just...a way to spend time. The rewards were bland, the puzzles were generally easy and bland. (I liked a lot of the electricity-based puzzles though...) Give me back my Zelda dungeons, « Harvest Goddess » dammit.

I wouldn't mind going back to limited healing items either. (I miss potions, honestly. :?) I think that would eliminate a lot of the ease during the final boss. I didn't bother upgrading my armor very much but I remember being really anxious going into the final boss because of some quote from Aonuma that seemed to imply it would be tough...so I had WAY too many healing items...and it was a cake walk.

Ah well. LoZ has only survived thirty years because it was always changing - and listening to fans. Just not the puzzles please...if it ain't broke don't fix it.

The only backlog left that I have is Ni no Kuni II...I've got it all downloaded finally, I just don't feel physically well enough to sit at my desktop to play anything, which is a shame. It'll happen before the end of the year though. :) Downloaded is step one!

Interesting perspectives on Zelda. I for one never found the bosses, puzzles or dungeons to be particularly challenging in the series (although the Water dungeon in OOT was certainly ANNOYING AF), but I always at least found them to be enjoyable to a degree. However, I was sort of relieved they left out the huge dungeons in BotW. I, like many others on here I'm sure, grew up with the series from the time it was first released in the US on the NES (gold cartridge was the coolest thing EVER), and I have to say, I really appreciate the evolution of the series overall to what it's become in BotW.

I was just thinking the other day that I wanted to start a new file since I didn't even do half of the shrines and never upgraded any armor really, beyond the default levels. I offed Ganon as soon as I got the Master Sword at 13 hearts, so going back and taking my time to explore more fully and actually play the DLC would be worth it to me.

Before I do that however, I'm still struggling through 428 Shibuya Scramble. The system is incredibly annoying, and I'm having buyer's remorse over this game, but damn it, I'm going to finish it. I think if it had voice acting I would be more engaged (I knew it didn't when I bought it). Almost done with the 12:00 - 13:00 timeblock.

I honestly never liked dungeons, lol. But it's the overriding complaint I see (other than weapon degradation) and I think it's the one thing they could have added that would have made the fanbase even happier, so I'd be cool with it in spite of always having found dungeons frustrating. Just because they take so long to get through and you're sort of 'stuck' to that one part of the game until you complete it.

For me (and this is a more controversial complaint since lots of fans don't even *want* LoZ to feel story-driven, apparently) the only thing I was dissatisfied with was the choppy, minimalist story. It was a story made up of flashes of the past...the present felt very empty, and the ending didn't make it any more satisfying for me. That and I would have liked it if the shrines and divine beasts had been more individual...more color variation or *anything* that made them look/feel distinct from each other.

I would have gone nuts for the DLC if it had actually somehow let me play past the ending...maybe added a story where Link and Zelda fully reclaim Hyrule Castle, or rebuild some towns or...I don't know what else. Something. Even if Zelda was just a side character who stayed in one place and served as someone to consult with or be a quest hub, like Impa or something. Awesome game, anyway, best of them all for the actual gameplay, for me, though I was more *moved* by both OOT and TP and even SS because the story was so much more in the present, I guess. I'm not sure how many hours I've put in altogether, between my original Wii U copy and my various Switch files, but it's got to be over 200, now. But then, long games are pretty much all I play, with few exceptions. I'm used to my games taking 80+ hours to complete and STILL not being at 100%, lol.

Atelier Lydie and Suelle has arrived...it's downloading an apparently gigantic installation package or something right now...so that is now officially on my log. Good timing; I don't feel so great today and will probably feel worse tomorrow.

Major props to you ryume if you never got stuck in any of the old games! :o I'm glad I started with OoT, personally...because even as a preteen there were sections of ALttP and LA in particular that were out of my league. (Ice Palace...UGH.) Honorable mentions to the Water Temple and Stone Tower Temple in Majora's Mask...

Since Wind Waker the bosses and puzzles and such have gotten significantly easier...things have also been more story based 'experiences' for that matter. Which has kind of split the fan base a bit. If you ever go on sites like Zelda Universe or Zelda Dungeon you'll see a lot of split that way. Fans of story driven games vs fans of gameplay driven games. I guess that's just the industry though.

If it's any comfort, Kikki, I don't think we'll see a story MORE bare bones than BotW. (The pendulum will probably swing back towards story-driven next title.) Puzzles though, I'm torn. Aside from SOME optional stuff it's been a long time since we've seen difficult puzzles. (Maybe Spirit Tracks?) Which I guess is again part of that 30 year old legacy thing. Nintendo reeally wants to please everyone. And I wouldn't say they've done that with BotW, but they're where the market's at...which counts for a lot.

Just got a Switch and had to get Night in the Woods so I can play one of my all-time favorite games on the go. Plus, I hadn't played the updated version yet, so it's nice to see some new content.

Considering getting Stardew Valley...just not sure if I'm in a farming game mood right now.

LoZ has got to switch things up every game to keep their huge market happy. I didn't like Link Between Worlds since it had an old-school feel, but I didn't lament it or anything...so many others loved it. Changing things up keeps them from losing big chunks of their players over time, imo.

Meanwhile I've started working on Trails in the Sky again properly, but I have GOT to finish Tides of Destiny so that I can retire my PS3 once and for all. (Well, once and for most? It's not like it's going into the garbage...just to the basement TV.) I want to actually bring my Wii U back up in its place...I'm finding it hard to do without XCX...I was done the game, twice, of course, but still had to unlock the final level of biological field skill (I hate ciniculas. My least favourite enemy.) and I'm sure I missed a few 'Scenic Viewpoints'. And I also still had...what was it? Oh, a few actually...Minish Cap, Tokyo Mirage Sessions, and Skyward Sword. I had that game 75% finished and I just set it down and got side tracked. I didn't have significant trouble with the motion controls or anything unless I was playing with direct sunlight shining between me and the system...still don't know what happened there, I actually really like that game. Makes no sense that I didn't finish it.

Honestly I don't ever want to let my Wii U get too far from me unless XCX gets ported. I love that world so much, it's so beautiful and unique...I always want to be able to start that game up and just wander for an hour, listening to each continent's different soundtrack :)

Congrats on your new Switch, quigley :)
